DOMINANCE AND DRAMA ON DAY 3 OF CAVA BOYS’ U16 & MEN’S U19 CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025 IN TASHKENT

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, June 12, 2025 – Day 3 of the CAVA Boys’ U16 and Men’s U19 Volleyball Championships 2025 delivered a thrilling mix of commanding wins and nail-biting five-set battles at the Jar Volleyball Hall in Tashkent. With the group stages approaching their final stretch, teams intensified their campaigns for a spot in the semifinals.

Iran continued their commanding run in the Boys’ U16 category with a dominant straight-set victory over Uzbekistan 2, winning 3:0 (25–8, 25–12, 25–12). The match, which lasted just over an hour, saw Iran display complete control in all aspects of the game, from powerful serving to well-organized blocking and clinical finishing. With over 1,000 spectators in attendance at the competition venue, the Iranian team maintained their unbeaten record and solidified their position as one of the tournament favorites.

Iran’s U16 squad, led by head coach Arash Sadeghiyani, delivered another near-perfect performance, overpowering hosts Uzbekistan 2 in straight sets. With powerful serving and a disciplined block line, Iran restricted the local team to just 32 total points across three sets.

Standout performers for Iran included Yasin Asadizadeh, who delivered a powerful performance with 10 points, showcasing explosive attacks and sharp serves. Arash Ashrafi and Yazdan Abdi were equally impressive, combining for 18 points and contributing 5 crucial blocks that disrupted the Uzbek attack.

Iran’s overall serve efficiency and reception game were exceptional, allowing them to maintain a strong team side-out efficiency of 67%, underscoring their dominance throughout the match.

Despite the home crowd’s support, Uzbekistan 2 struggled to find rhythm under pressure, although Behruz Mamaev and Umidjon Sharipov showed flashes of potential for future fixtures.

Iran remain undefeated in the tournament, now sitting second in the rankings behind Uzbekistan 1 with a perfect 2–0 match record and an immaculate 6–0 set record.

In one of the most thrilling matches of the tournament so far, Uzbekistan 1 edged past Kazakhstan in a dramatic five-set showdown, winning 3:2 (25–14, 22–25, 33–35, 25–22, 16–14). The marathon match lasted 152 minutes and kept the 500 spectators at the venue on the edge of their seats. After a dominant start by the hosts in the first set, Kazakhstan fought back fiercely, taking the second and an epic third set that extended to 35–33. However, Uzbekistan 1 showed remarkable resilience and composure under pressure, rallying to win the fourth and fifth sets and secure a crucial victory in the race for the semifinals.

Uzbekistan’s key weapons in the five-set victory included Mirkomiljon Fozilov, who delivered 11 kills and made 8 crucial receptions under pressure, playing a pivotal role in both offense and defense. Said Khalbekov emerged as a consistent scorer during critical moments, providing much-needed stability throughout the match. The team’s composure in the deciding set was largely credited to the tactical leadership of coach Kavalenka, whose timely interventions and strategic guidance helped Uzbekistan 1 stay focused and seal the win in a gripping final set.

Kazakhstan’s standout was Elmurod Mamadaliyev, who delivered 17 attacks and kept the pressure on with aggressive serves.

With this win, Uzbekistan 1 climbed to the top of the standings with 3 wins and 8 points, edging closer to securing a semifinal berth.

Iran dominated Uzbekistan 2 in the Men’s U19 Championship, defeating them in straight sets 3-0 with scores of 25–19, 25–11, and 25–12. The match lasted 67 minutes and was watched by 500 spectators.

 

Iran’s U19 team maintained their exceptional form with a dominant performance against Uzbekistan 2. Under the guidance of head coach Mr Adel Gholami, the team controlled the tempo from the first whistle.

Top contributors included Amirmohammad Rafieirad, who led the team with 16 attack points and 4 service aces, while Parsa Galehdar impressed with 15 points and a solid presence at the net. Iran’s strong side-out success and precise block timing effectively stifled any counterattacks from Uzbekistan.

The win keeps Iran tied with Uzbekistan 1 in match victories, both holding 2–0 records, with Iran boasting a 6–0 set record.

Uzbekistan 1 secured a clean sweep against India in their match, winning 3-0 with set scores of 25–18, 25–23, and 25–20. The match lasted 89 minutes and was witnessed by 500 spectators.

Uzbekistan’s U19 squad rounded out the day with another composed performance, defeating India in straight sets. The match was competitive throughout, especially in the second set where India briefly led, but Uzbekistan’s depth and focus proved decisive.

Key players for Uzbekistan included Shokhbo Mamayusufov and Umidjon Sharipov, who together contributed a combined total of 30 points. Setter Artyom Varzilov maintained excellent tempo throughout the match, facilitating swift ball distribution. Defensively, Uzbekistan demonstrated strong teamwork by executing 10 blocks.

India showed resilience, with Rajat Singh and Mahendra Dhruwe leading the scoring, but unforced errors at key moments cost them the match.

Uzbekistan 1 now top the Men’s U19 table with 9 points from 3 wins, looking primed for a semifinal berth.

Day 4 is the rest day, with the round robin resuming on June 14 for Day 5. Fans are encouraged to stay energized and ready to fill the stands at the Jar Volleyball Hall to support the future stars of Asian volleyball as the competition heats up toward semifinal qualification.
