FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship: team rosters (subject to eligibility check to be conducted by the FIVB)
While the young hopefuls that have made it to their coaches’ lists are still stars in the making, there are many among them, who have already left their mark at previous youth competitions.
17-year-old outside hitter Manuel Zlatanov (pictured in the main photo), for example, the grandson of Bulgarian legend Dimitar Zlatanov and son of the remarkable Italian international of the recent past Hristo Zlatanov, who earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at last year’s inaugural FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17 World Championship, is on Italy’s U19 roster this year. So are his fellow U17 Dream Teamers – opposite Federico Argano and middle blocker Martino Bigozzi.
Young Zlatanov also made the Dream Team of the 2024 CEV U18 Men’s European Championship, where Italy earned silver. Middle Alessandro Benacchio, also from that Dream Team, is set to captain the U19 selection for the upcoming World Championship in Uzbekistan.
The continental champion team of France placed four players on that European Dream Team last year and all of them are on call for the World Champs this year – MVP and outside hitter Noa Duflos Rossi, setter Theo Martzluff, opposite Ino Dukic and libero Guillaume Respaut.
2024 South American youth champions Argentina’s squad is highlighted by the likes of 16-year-old outside Federico Debonis, who was named MVP and on the Dream Team of the 2024 U19 Boys’ South American Championship. Dream Team setter Felipe Santarelli and libero Ezequiel Parera are also part of Argentina’s selection for Tashkent. Argentina will also rely on the two Dream Teamers they produced at the U17 World Championship, where they claimed silver – middle Ivan Pavon and libero Valentin Yapura.
Asian continental champions China are set to be captained by outside Ding Haocheng, the MVP of last year’s U18 Men’s Asian Championship. The Best Setter of that tournament Gong Haoqian and Dream Team outside Yu Xiang will continue to shine on the Chinese team at the world level.
NORCECA titleholders USA also continue to rely on the services of their Dream Teamers from the 2024 U19 Boys’ NORCECA Continental Championship – MVP and outside Aleksey Mikhailenko, setter Rafael Urbina, outside Grant Lamoureux and middles Roman Payne and Luc Soerensen.
African champions Tunisia make no exception and have their 2024 U18 Boys’ African Nations Championship MVP Yahiya Jemai and Dream Teamers Ilyess Alimi and Mahdi Ayari in line for the upcoming U19 World Champs.
A number of other continental Dream Teamers are featured on the rosters of Algeria (Ahmed Belqassim), Brazil (Henrique Gouveia, Diogo Pereira and Murilo Seidel), Egypt (Nour Elsayed, Omar Ahmed and Zeiad Youssef), Iran (Mohammad Amin Rahimi, Mohammadnima Bateni and Mohammadamin Arabyarmohammadi), Pakistan (Muhammad Yahya and Jabran Jabran) and Poland (Lenik Tymoteusz)
