CHILE AND QATAR TO HOST NEXT YEAR’S U17 WORLD CHAMPS

CHILE AND QATAR TO HOST NEXT YEAR’S U17 WORLD CHAMPS

Santiago will welcome the rising stars of women’s volleyball and Doha will entertain the young hopefuls of men’s volleyball

The FIVB Board of Administration has approved Chile as the host country for the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship and Qatar as the host country for the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17 World Championship.

The second edition of these competitions will take place in the capitals of the two countries. The Girls’ U17 World Championship will be held in Santiago from August 5 to 15, 2026, and the Boys’ U17 event will be organized in Doha from August 19 to 29. These host nominations are historic for both nations, since neither Chile, nor Qatar have ever hosted a volleyball world championship in any age/gender category.

The FIVB Volleyball U17 World Championships were first held in 2024, with Lima, Peru and Sofia, Bulgaria welcoming the inaugural editions for girls and for boys, respectively. The U17 girls of China and the U17 boys of Italy claimed the historic titles.

Now the competition format of the biennial event has been changed and, instead of 16 teams, each tournament will feature 24 participating teams, in line with the U21 and the U19 FIVB Volleyball World Championships. However, as of 2026, the teams can participate with up to 14 players on their rosters.
