Kathmandu, Nepal, July 8, 2025 – As volleyball holds the prestigious title of Nepal’s national sport, the Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) proudly joined the global celebration of the first-ever World Volleyball Day on July 7, 2025 in line with the initiative of the FIVB, AVC, and CAVA.
To mark the occasion, NVA hosted a grand celebration at the New Diamond Youth Sports Club, bringing together over 500 schoolchildren, government officials, athletes, coaches, media representatives, and volleyball enthusiasts for a day of fun-filled activities.
Highlights included a symbolic balloon release featuring the World Volleyball Day logo, a cake-cutting ceremony shaped like a volleyball, and four friendly matches featuring teams from NVA, the National Sports Council, the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF), and referees.
Mr Tanka Lal Ghising, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council, not only attended as the chief guest but also participated in the matches, reinforcing government support for volleyball development. The NSJF’s involvement further highlighted the value of strong media relations in sports promotion.
Celebrations spanned 50 districts and five provinces, making it a nationwide affair. In the evening, the NVA held an interactive forum with stakeholders to discuss the future of volleyball in Nepal and explore ways to further grow the sport.
NVA President Mr Jitendra Bahadur Chand extended heartfelt thanks to all stakeholders including government bodies, security forces, sponsors, clubs, and media for their unwavering support.
“Volleyball’s development requires united effort from all sectors,” he emphasized. “Let’s work together as one and accomplish our dreams.”
The celebration concluded with a dinner, marking a memorable day for Nepalese volleyball and reaffirming the nation’s commitment to the sport on both national and international stages.
