Male’, Maldives, July 8, 2025 – The Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) organized a vibrant event to commemorate World Volleyball Day on July 7, 2025, with a special focus on celebrating and empowering young players, the future of the sport.
The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Hon. Mohamed Tholaal, Commissioner of Sports, and witnessed the presence of distinguished guests including Mr Ahmed Ismail, Vice President of the Maldives Olympic Committee, and Mr Thamooh Ahmed Saeed, General Secretary of the Maldives Olympic Committee.
The gathering brought together a wide community of volleyball enthusiasts – Volleyball Legends, former national team players, current national team players, coaches, referees, and young players representing Blues for Volleyball, Muneez Volleyball Movement, My Sports Academy, and Pinnacle Academy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Mohamed Latheef, President of VAM, President of the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA), AVC Executive Vice President, and AVC Zonal Executive Vice President, emphasized the importance of investing in youth development. He shared that VAM is currently working on a comprehensive youth development plan with the support of an experienced Japanese coach, aiming to enhance the future of volleyball in the Maldives.
Mr Latheef also announced the launch of a special coaching course for the Atolls, encouraging greater participation from women, highlighting inclusivity and grassroots empowerment.
He extended his gratitude to FIVB President Mr Fabio Azevedo for creating a global platform where former, current, and future volleyball players can unite in celebration of the sport. Echoing the FIVB President’s message, Mr Latheef urged everyone to move forward “Together as One.” He also acknowledged the instrumental role of AVC President Mr Ramon Suzara in driving the growth of volleyball across the Asia region.
In his address, Hon. Mohamed Tholaal inspired the young athletes to dream big, reminding them that with hard work and determination, anyone can become a champion.
The celebration concluded with the cutting of a special cake made in honor of World Volleyball Day, marking the event with joy, unity, and a renewed commitment to the future of volleyball in the Maldives.
