MEN’S U21 TEAMS SET FOR ACTION IN JIANGMEN

China stages the next generation showcase in men’s volleyball

The future of men’s volleyball will be on full display in Jiangmen as 24 teams gather for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship, running from August 21 to 29. The tournament will bring together the best emerging talent in men’s volleyball.

In 2023, Iran defeated Italy in a five-set final to capture the title, while Bulgaria secured the bronze over Argentina. All three podium teams return in 2025 with opening matches scheduled on the first day of play.

The teams competing in Jiangmen are Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, Czechia, Egypt, France, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Morocco, Poland, Puerto Rico, Thailand, Tunisia, Türkiye, Ukraine and USA.

They are divided into four pools of six for a round-robin first stage. The top four in each pool progress to the eighthfinals, with winners advancing to the quarterfinals and losers continuing in playoffs for ninth to 16th place. The bottom two teams in each pool contest classification matches for positions 17th to 24th. All teams will play through to the final day, producing a complete ranking from first to 24th.

The tournament opens on Thursday, August 21, with 12 matches on the program. At 11:00 local time (03:00 GMT), USA face Thailand in Pool A, Iran begin their title defense against Kazakhstan in Pool B, and Bulgaria start against Cuba in Pool C.

At 14:00 local time (06:00 GMT), China take on Türkiye in Pool A, Poland meet Puerto Rico in Pool B, and Brazil go against Japan in Pool C.

At 17:00 local time (09:00 GMT), Egypt face Morocco in Pool A, Canada meet Korea in Pool B, and Czechia take on Colombia in Pool C.

The day closes at 19:00 local time (11:00 GMT) with three Pool D fixtures, including 2023 silver medalists Italy against hosts Indonesia, alongside Tunisia against France and Argentina against Ukraine.

Jiangmen makes its debut as host of the Men’s U21 World Championship, where nine days of matches will bring the 2025 age-group season to a close.
