KOREA AND CHINESE TAIPEI SET UP FINAL CLASH AT ASIAN EASTERN ZONAL MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

Zhangjiagang, China, August 22, 2025 – Korea and Chinese Taipei on Friday booked their places in the highly anticipated final of the Asian Eastern Zonal Men’s Volleyball Championship following contrasting semifinal victories that captivated an ever-growing crowd. Earlier in the day, Mongolia clinched fifth place with a hard-fought triumph over Macao, China.

In the fifth-place playoff, Mongolia edged Macao, China 3-2 (25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 19-25, 15-12). Despite a spirited comeback from Macao, China in the third and fourth sets, the Mongolian side showed superior mental resilience and sharper tactical execution in the decider. Davaajargal Altankhuyag delivered the winning strike to seal Mongolia’s victory.

Top-seeded Korea were at their commanding best in the first semifinal, showcasing tactical discipline, efficient offense, and relentless precision. With Heo Subong and Shin Hojin leading the charge, each tallying 16 points, the Koreans overpowered Hong Kong, China in straight sets through their explosive attacking game.

The second semifinal produced a thrilling five-set spectacle, as Chinese Taipei outlasted hosts China 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 19-17) in a battle of resilience and determination lasting nearly two and a half hours. Chinese Taipei held their nerve in the critical moments, combining cohesive teamwork with individual brilliance to withstand China’s repeated surges. Despite the hosts’ relentless efforts to regain control, Chinese Taipei remained composed and closed out the decisive set 19-17 to secure their place in the final.

With Korea and Chinese Taipei now set for a captivating championship showdown, fans can expect an exhilarating conclusion to the tournament. Hosts China, meanwhile, will battle Hong Kong, China for the bronze medal and the final podium position.
