China Serves Up 31 Aces to Crush Qatar, Advance in AVC U16 Championship

AMMAN, Jordan — China nailed 31 aces on Qatar for a 25-2, 25-6, 25-5 domination to advance to the next round of the 2nd AVC Asian Women’s U16 Volleyball Championship on Sunday at the Prince Hamzah Sports Hall.

China trailed 1-2 to Qatar to start the game, but the former scored 24 consecutive points to dominate the opening set and the rest of the game that only lasted for 41 minutes.

Xu Rui Lin led the Chinese with 16 points from 11 attacks and five aces. Chen Rui Han fired nine aces to finish with 15 points, while Sui Yimiao delivered 11 of the team’s 31 aces and had 13 points.

China goes for Pool C sweep against Kazakhstan on Monday at 3:30 p.m. (Jordan time).

Almayasa Deyab was the top scorer for Qatar with four points, as they remained winless in two games.

Meanwhile, Korea vented its ire on Kazakhstan, 25-18, 25-13, 25-14, to keep its quarterfinal hopes alive.

A day after absorbing a five-set meltdown to China, Son Seo Yeon sustained her fine form to lead the Koreans anew with 19 points on 16 kills and three blocks to tie Kazakhstan to 1-1.

Park Ye Young chipped in nine points, as Lee Da Yeon and Moon Tiara had seven each to help Son.

Korea seeks to enter the next round in a must-win against Qatar on Monday at 1 p.m.

Kazakhstan was carried by Margarita Vagner and Saida Irismatova, who had 13 and 12 points, respectively

In Pool A, Hong Kong, China also advanced to the next round after sweeping the host Jordan, 25-10, 25-11, 25-17.

Wing Tung Lee delivered 15 points, as Ka Ki Ho backstopped her with 10 points to complete a perfect first round.
