AMMAN, Jordan — The Final Eight of the 2nd AVC Asian Women’s U16 Volleyball championship fires off on Wednesday at the Prince Hamzah Sports Hall here.
Leading their respective pools are unbeaten teams, China and Hong Kong, China headlining Pool E, and defending champion Japan and Chinese Taipei in Pool F.
The top two teams of each pool will advance to the Final Four on Friday.
Japan, which carried over its straight-set win over fellow Final Eight Philippines, battles Thailand at 11 a.m.
Chinese Taipei, also 1-0 after beating Thailand in the first round, takes on the Philippines at 1:30 p.m.
“I want to win against Team Philippines. And I hope everyone will do their best,” said Chen Ting-Yi, who poured in 24 points to end the first round with a big win over Thailand.
Both Thailand and the Philippines are entering the round with 0-1 records before they clash on Thursday.
But you can’t count out both teams, who have also been impressive in Jordan.
“You can expect us to improve. We’ll correct the mistakes we made in the game [against Iran] and play even better in the next one,” said the Philippine team captain Xyz Rayco.
China takes on Uzbekistan (0-1) at 4 p.m., while Hong Kong, China seeks to keep its unbeaten run against Korea (0-1) at 6:30 p.m.
The teams outside the Final Eight will continue their classification, with Kazakhstan leading Pool G with Qatar and host Jordan, and in Pool H, which has Australia, India, and Iran.
Jordan battles Qatar on Wednesday at Princess Sumaya Hall at 4 p.m., followed by Iran versus India at 6:30 p.m.
