Chonburi, Thailand – Indonesia are on course toward title defense in the men’s volleyball competition at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, after sweeping Vietnam in Pool B.
Saturday morning’s session at Jomtien Beach started as Bintang/Sofyan (INA1) defeated N.A. Tuan/L.H. Y (VIE1), 2-0 (21-16, 21-12). Indonesia’s second team Yosi/Danang followed with another sweep, taking over with a 2-0 match (21-14, 21-17) on Vietnam 2, T.V. Viet/Nguyen Lam Toi.
Later, Malaysia debuted in Pool A, with both their teams steering clear of the opponents Singapore. Ho/Looi (MAS1) won 2-0 (21-16, 21-17) over Sasikumar R./Eng C.F.R. (SGP1).
Malaysia 2 Bin Mazlan/Isma completed the sweep, winning 2-0 (21-14, 21-10) against Singapore 2 Gan L.J.Y./Soon D.W.S.
Malaysia are scheduled to play against hosts Thailand in the afternoon session on Sunday, December 14.
Titleholders Indonesia have not dropped a single set so far in the competition, and will play against Laos on Monday, December 15, to complete Pool B.
