Qidong, China, July 5, 2019 – Florian Schnetzer and Peter Eglseer made the perfect start to the 2-Star Qidong Open when they won both their matches on Friday.
The Austrian pair opened against Russia’s Maxim Sivolap and Artem Yarzutkin and won 2-1 (19-21, 21-18, 16-14). They returned to the court later in the day where they beat Thailand’s Surin Jongklang and Adisorn Khaolumtarn 2-0 (23-21, 21-14).
Fellow Austrians Christoph Dressler and Alexander Huber, and Julian Horl and Tobias Winter also won two out of two, but Felix Friedl and Simon Frühbauer slipped to defeat and will be playing to stay in the competition on Saturday.
China’s leading side Jiaxin Wu and Likejiang Ha qualified in first place after they defeated Russia’s Petr Bakhnar and Yury Bogatov 2-1 (19-21, 21-16, 15-9) and Lithuania’s Lukas Kazdailis and Arnas Rumsevicius 2-0 (21-19, 21-16).
The tournament runs from July 4-7 and is one of nine FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour events in China, with $50,000 on offer to the leading teams.
