The two leaders discuss development, potential and future of the sport
FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° today discussed the bright future of volleyball and beach volleyball in the Maldives with the country’s President, His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The meeting was part of the FIVB President’s visit to the Maldives where the FIVB officially confirmed its full commitment to supporting the development of the sport in the country through Volleyball Empowerment.
The two leaders discussed the two years of beach volleyball coaching support which will see the FIVB appoint a highly-experienced coach to build a programme which not only improves the technical level of the national teams but helps to elevate the level of the game across all levels.
The FIVB President said:
“It was an honour to meet with His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to discuss the future of our beloved sport in this beautiful country. Both the Maldives and beach volleyball have the same intrinsic philosophy – all you need is sun, sand and sea – and I feel that, together, they are the perfect fit.
The Maldives’ potential to host world-class Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour events in the future was also discussed. In particular, the FIVB President expressed the FIVB’s full commitment to ensuring that any events would have sustainability, the protection of the environment and promotion of local culture as top priorities.
The President of the Maldives thanked the FIVB President for his support and the provision of more opportunities at an international level for the sport. He also applauded volleyball and beach volleyball for being gender equal sports.
