Bangkok, Thailand, December 23, 2021 – The General Technical Meeting was held on Wednesday at Hotel Merino Dhaka Bangladesh ahead of the AVC Central Zone Senior Men’s and Women’s Challenge Cup 2021.
Mr Atiqul Islam, President of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation, and Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) President Mr Mohamed Latheef from Maldives jointly presided over the meeting to confirm readiness ahead of the Central Zone’s top-tier competition in Dhaka between December 23 and 28, 2021.
Atiqul welcomed all teams and officials participating in the six-day event, while Latheef thanked all 11 participating teams from 6 National Federations.
Six teams are taking part in the women’s event comprising Nepal, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Maldives and hosts Bangladesh, with the men’s competition featuring Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal and hosts Bangladesh.
Participating teams in both categories will compete in single round-robin preliminaries, with teams finishing first and second after the first round setting up the final clash for the gold medal and teams finishing third and fourth places fighting it out for the bronze medal.
Uzbekistan are due to take on Maldives in the women’s opening match at 9.30am local time on December 23, followed by Nepal against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh versus Kyrgyzstan.
The opening ceremony will take place at 3.30pm local time on the same day, while hosts Bangladesh will challenge Nepal in the men’s curtain-raisers at 5pm. Uzbekistan are set to challenge Sri Lanka in the last match of Day 1.
During the meeting on Wednesday, Latheef highlighted that teams from the Central Zone have emerged as the eventual champions at the 2021 Asian Senior Men’s Championship and the 2021 Asian Men’s and Women’s Club Championships and thus encouraged all National Federations from the Central Zone to work hard to maintain such splendid performances in the Asian Championships to retain their number one among the AVC Zonal Associations.
CAVA Secretary General Mr Kylych Sarbaghyshev, newly-elected Secretary General to National Olympic Committee of Kyrgyzstan, also participated in the General Technical Meeting and encouraged all participants.
Technical Delegate Mr Masoud Yazdanpanah from Iran explained all the technical and competition regulations to all participating teams.
The meeting was concluded by a speech from CAVA President, who expressed his sincere thanks to the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation President for hosting the AVC Central Zone Senior Men’s and Women’s Challenge Cup as well as six CAVA competitions since 2015. Latheef also congratulated all participants.
