KOREA SWEEP AUSTRALIA 3-0 FOR SECOND WIN AT 14TH ASIAN WOMEN’S U18 CHAMPIONSHIP

Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, June 8, 2022 – Devastating Korea came out in full force to whip the Aussies in one-sided affair 25-11, 25-15, 25-11 in their second Pool A match on Day 3 of the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Nakhon Pathom Sports Center Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Korea took command in the first set, thanks to their combination attacks and solid blocks. Australia tried to pull their game together, attempting to catch up with the Korea’s exceptional tactics. However, the formidable Koreans intensified their defence, allowing the rivals attacking difficulty. Korea clinched the set by a wide margin 25-11.

The rhythm was with the Koreans when they raced to a commanding 11-6 lead in the second set. Inspired by the victory, the determined Australians regained their composure, but still, their intention did not pay its dividends as the lead was stretched to 14-23. After that, Korea allowed their rivals only one more point to wrap up the set 25-15 and match.

The third set was the similar script when Korea remained in awesome form to take an initial 8-2 lead before the Aussies upped their tempo to reduce the gap 11-8. Despite putting up a brave fight, the spirited Australians found the Koreans unstoppable to go down 11-25.

Shin Eunji chipped in with 13 points for Korea including 7 attacks and 6 aces, while Lee Jiyun added 9 points from attack hits. Caitlin Whincup led Australia with 9 points.

Korea will next take on Iran, while Australia will be pitted against Uzbekistan on Thursday.
