ARIYAN INSTRUMENTAL IN LIFTING INDIA’S HARD-FOUGHT 3-1 WIN AGAINST THAILAND

Tehran, Iran, August 16, 2022 – Talented Ariyan Mahmoudi Nejad scored a match-high 21 points to help India seal dramatic 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 27-25, 25-23) win against Thailand in their second Pool B match at the 14th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Federation Hall on Tuesday.

Losing their opening match to title-holders Japan, India entered the court with the winning attitude and got off to an impressive start in the first set gaining the control of the thrilling set against Thailand, thanks largely to Ariyan’s fine attacks to snatch the first set 25-21.

However, Thailand clawed their way back to win the second set 26-24, seizing the chance when the rivals struggled on poor reception with unforced attacking mistakes. The next two sets were hotly-contested as both sides fought all-out to win the match. Though seriously challenged by the Thais, India still had enough in their tank to hold the rivals off. The scores ended 27-25, 25-23 in favor of India for the eventual 3-1 victory

Ariyan Mahmoudi Nejad emerged as the top scorer with well-earned 21 points for India including 19 attacks, while Samphan Laklai contributed 20 points for Thailand.

“Today, I think the referee made some mistakes and all I complained about was no use. In some important times, we lost some points,” Bir Singh Yadav, head coach of India, said.
