From local courts to world leaders, 7 July was a day to remember
The 7 July 2025 marked a moment that will go down in volleyball history. For the first time ever, people all over the world came together to celebrate World Volleyball Day, and the response was nothing short of extraordinary.
The date commemorates 130 years since William G. Morgan first introduced the sport to the public in 1895. Powered by fans, athletes, clubs, federations and volleyball enthusiasts from every corner of the globe, this inaugural day was a true celebration of the sport.
From sun-soaked beaches and playgrounds to community centres and international arenas, volleyball fans from around the world made their celebrations seen. Across social media, the hashtag #WorldVolleyballDay was used, capturing amazing plays and heartfelt stories of how the sport enthrals, inspires and connects people of all ages.
The official World Volleyball Day video, released just before the big day and featuring some of the sport’s most iconic indoor and beach volleyball stars, quickly became a viral hit – amassing over 3.3 million views and setting the tone for the celebrations.
The day brought together the Global Volleyball Movement, but also world leaders and global organisations joined the celebrations.
In France, President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the nation’s Olympic volleyball champions from Paris 2024 to the Élysée Palace, honouring their achievements and the cultural significance of the sport. Read more
The International Olympic Committee spotlighted the day with a popular dynamic reel showcasing volleyball players around the world in action.

The Qatar Foundation hosted a series of community-wide activations designed to promote volleyball at all levels and foster the development of a vibrant, inclusive local volleyball culture, highlighting the sport’s ability to unite and uplift communities. Read more
In India, KIIT and KISS Universities, in collaboration with the Odisha Volleyball Association, spearheaded a widespread initiative to organise volleyball events across all 30 districts of Odisha and beyond. Their aim? To bring volleyball to every corner of the country and inspire the next generation.
Major brands, sports leagues and grassroots organisations also joined in with their own unique contributions to the day.
Nike Circuit celebrated volleyball with electrifying urban visuals and community showcases.
The NCAA and the Big Ten conference captured the energy of day and amplified the celebration.

Across the world, players took to their local courts, shared their favourite memories, posted videos of incredible rallies and captured the pure joy of playing. Whether it was a casual game at the park or a tournament final, each post contributed amazing images to an amazing day.
As we reflect on the day’s incredible success, it’s clear that volleyball is more than just a sport, it’s a global community. A movement. Acting Together as One.
