President of the Qatar Olympic Committee His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani presided over the awards ceremony and presented eventual champions Al Rayyan with the Amir Cup for 2022/23 season following their sensational 25-19, 25-21, 25-11 win against Al Arabi in the final showdown at the Aspire Ladies Gymnasium on Saturday.
After the match, HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, accompanied by Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) President Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari, presented Al Rayyan, which performed brilliantly in the final clash, with the Amir Cup, gold medals and attractive cash prize of QR 500,000. Runners-up Al Arabi received silver medals plus QR 250,000 cash prize.
QVA President Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari praised the excellent performances of both teams in a press statement following the action-packed final contes as well as Al Rayyan’s exceptional victory and the development of the volleyball game in Qatar.
Al Kuwari added that Al Rayyan, a 15-time winner, demonstrated an advanced level of playing during the tournament which enabled them to snatch the title, thanks to their awesome performance despite fierce challenge from the opponents.
Al Kuwari said that the diversity of the winning teams this season was a positive thing that opened the way for all clubs to compete vigorously and win next season’s title apart apart from showing how competitive the competition this season was despite the fact that the season started late due to Qatar’s busy commitment in hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 .
