Bangkok, Thailand, December 30, 2020 – Al-Wakrah pulled off a shock 3-1 win over Al-Arabi, as Al Rayyan claimed crucial win over Al-Gharafah in the Qatar Senior Men’s Volleyball League on Monday, volleyball.qa reported.
The Al-Wakrah’s victory came as a surprise as Al-Arabi proved much stronger in terms of tactics and techniques against the lower-ranked opponents. Al-Arabi, the mighty team which had already captured three major titles comprising the 2019-2020 Qatar Cup, the 2019-2020 3rd Qatar Men’s Championship and the last month’s Amir Cup, failed to make their mark to go down in dramatic four-setter 21-25 17-25 25-18 22-25 to the in-form Al-Wakrah.
However, despite the disappointing loss, Al-Arabi maintained their second place at the overall standing with 25 points from 9 wins against 2 losses, while Al-Wakrah jumped up to the 6th position with 15 points
The second match on Monday saw Al Rayyan clinch an impressive 3-1 (25-14 23-25 25-15 25-17) win against Al-Gharafah, bringing their aggregate scores to 22 points to trail in fifth place. Al-Gharafah remained in 8th place with six points.
A total of 10 teams are pitting their expertise against one another to vie for the top honour in the League, of which the competition will continue until January 30, 2021.
