Tianjin, China, July 10, 2024 – The AVC Beach Tour Tianjin Open will get underway from July 11 to 14 at Dongjiang Gulf Beach, Binhai, Tianjin in China, with strong players from China, Hong Kong China, Oman, Thailand, Australia, Japan, Singapore and Iran vying for top honor and AVC Rankings in men’s and women’s events.
Ahead of the competition, the General Technical Meeting was held on Wednesday at Gtel Tianjin Dongjiang Kailai Hotel to finally confirm the competition draw, refereeing, medical and other related issues.
The team briefing was jointly conducted by Technical Delegate Mr Thomas Chang from Hong Kong, China and Mr Nader Ansari from Iran, with the former reporting on the match protocol, the Rules of the Game as well as the competition format and the poo principle and the latter on the referee issues ahead of the conduction of the drawing of lots.
Head of Beach Volleyball Department of China Volleyball Association Mr Xiang Qian and representatives from Tianjin presided over the meeting to deliver cordial welcome speech apart from ensuring all participants that the local organisers will do their best to provide considerate service and cooperation for a success of the event in terms of organization and wishing everyone a pleasant stay in Tianjin. Also in attendance were Ms Natalie Sumdangdech from AVC Beach Volleyball Department and all participating players.
Another meeting was also organized with Mr Thomas Chang and Mr Nader Ansari taking the floor for technical, refereeing and other related matters.
In the men’s event, teams were split into six pools from Pool A to Pool F to contest pool round-robin preliminaries, with teams after the pool play drawn for round of last 16, while the women’s event sees teams divided into four pools (Pool A to Pool C) of four teams apiece to contest the pool round robin, with top two teams securing their quarterfinal spots.
Thailand’s Pithak Tipjan/Poravid Taovato are top seeds in the men’s event, with Australians Jack Pearse/D’Artagnan Potts and China’s Wang Yanwei/Liu Chuanyong seeded second and third respectively.
The Thai duo had captured their first Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour medal in the Philippines in 2022, a Subic Bay Futures gold, and backed it up with silver at their next appearance on the Tour, at the Coolangatta Futures in March and April, while the Australians won their first Beach Pro tour Futures event together last November in Geelong and took the title at the 23th Samila Open in Songkhla, Thailand this year,
Another big names back to chase for another glory in the men’s event after their success at this year’s Nuvali Open in Philippines are Abbas Pourasgari/Alireza Aghajanighasab from Iran.
In the women’s category, Akiko Hasegawa/Miki Ishii, who played vital role for Japan in stunning China on their home soil in the final showdown of the AVC Continental Cup Finals for a place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, are top seeds, while Australians Stefanie Fejes/Georgia Johnson, winners at this year’s Samila Open in Thailand, and Jasmine Fleming/Jana Milutinovic are seeded second and third places respectively.
The pool play will start at 9am local time in both men’s and women’s event.
