Kariya’s Belgian opposite Kaja Grobelna spikes past NEC’s two-player block

The 2025 calendar year in the women’s Daido Life SV.League in Japan will start with the seven double headers of the 11th leg set to be played this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, January 4 and 5. Interestingly, in each of the fixtures, a team from the bottom half of the current standings will challenge an opponent from the top half.

Table leaders Osaka Marvelous will welcome table trailers Gunma Green Wings to the Asue Arena Osaka on Saturday and Sunday at 13:05 local time (04:05 UTC). The home team leads the standings on a 15-3 win-loss ratio and 45 points, while winless Gunma are stuck to the bottom 14th place on 0-16 and 1. In the previous double header between these two teams this season, less than a month ago, hosts Gunma managed to take only a set from their opponents in the first game.

Denso Airybees Koriyama, the team with the most points in the league, 48, but running second on a 16-4 win-loss ratio, will pay a visit to Aranmare Yamagata, standing second, but from the bottom, in 13th place on 2-18 and 8. The two games will be played at the INPEX Sakata Arena on Saturday at 14:05 (05:05) and on Sunday at 13:05 (04:05). Earlier this season, in October, Denso hammered out two straight-set home wins over Aranmare.

Saitama Ageo Medics, positioned in third place on 13-5 and 40, will host Okayama Seagulls, who are fourth from the bottom, in 11th place on 5-11 and 17, at the Ageo Citizen Gymnasium. On both competition days, the games start at 13:05 (04:05).

Fourth-placed NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki will entertain Queenseis Kariya. The game on Saturday will get underway at 15:35 (06:35) and the one on Sunday will serve off at 13:05 (04:05). The defending champions, on 12-6 and 39, and their visitors, placed 10th on 7-11 and 22, will face each other at the Yoyogi National Stadium 2nd Gymnasium. When they met in October, the two teams exchanged three-point victories. Visitors NEC took the first game in straight sets, but the hosts from Kariya won the second by 3-1.

Victorina Himeji will travel to Kurobe Aqua Fairies for a double header at the Ariso Dome, with both games set to start at 13:05 (04:05). Himeji are in fifth place on 12-6 and 32 and Kurobe are 12th on 6-14 and 17.

In one of the clashes, in which the two rivals are only two positions away from each other in the table, eighth-placed Toray Arrows Shiga, on 11-9 and 30, will host sixth-placed Astemo Rivale Ibaraki, on 11-7 and 30. Both matches at the YMIT Arena will start at 14:05 (05:05).

Also two spots away from each other in the standings, Saga Hisamitsu Springs and PFU BlueCats Ishikawa Kahoku will meet at the Salonpas Arena at 14:05 (05:05) on Saturday and Sunday. Hosts Saga are running seventh on 12-8 and 38, while PFU are in ninth place on 8-12 and 23.
