Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, June 8, 2022 – Talented Aruzhan Berkimbay scored a match-high 20 points to help Kazakhstan seal a comeback 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-11 25-14) win against India in their third Pool B match at the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Nakhon Pathom Sports Center on Wednesday.
Holding 1-1 record, India entered the court with the winning attitude and got off to an impressive start in the first set, gaining control of the thrilling set against Kazakhstan, thanks largely to Kavita’s fine attacks to snatch the first set 25-20.
However, Kazakhstan clawed their way back to win the second set 25-20, seizing the chance when the rivals struggled on poor reception with unforced attacking mistakes. The next two sets were one-way traffic as the Kazakhs stormed on superbly. Though challenged by the Indians, Kazakhstan still had enough in their tank to hold the rivals off. The scores ended 25-11, 25-14 in favor of Kazakhstan for the eventual 3-1 victory.
Aruzhan Berkimbay emerged as the top scorer with well-earned 20 points for Kazakhstan including 18 attacks, while Kavita contributed 16 points for India.
“I am so happy to win today. I hope we can go at the same pace. Teams here are very strong and this experience is totally new for me,” Anastassiya Kartashova, who plays for Altay Club, said after the match.
“I hope I can improve myself to such an extent that I can achieve the Olympic Medal with Kazakhstan team one day. This is my dream,” she added.
