Lanzhou, China, May 29, 2024 – The one-week Asian International Referee Candidate Course (AIRCC) came to a successful conclusion on Saturday, May 25 here. All the 14 candidates from Malaysia, Mongolia, Hong Kong, China and China passed the theoretical and practical tests.
Hosted by China Volleyball Association (CVA) in collaboration with the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), the course was held between May 19 to 25, 2024, instructed by Course Instructors Mr Sun Jianhui, former FIVB Referee Committee member and FIVB referee, and Mr Wang Ning, AVC Referees Committee Member and FIVB referee.
Through the course, with the help of the instructors, the participants not only learned volleyball rules and refereeing theories, but also gained the experience and confidence in making right decisions and the effective management of the matches.
The course was well organized during the 2024 China National Girls’ U19 Volleyball Championship, which provided a good opportunity for the participants to practice.
Each of them got a chance to perform specific functions as First Referee/Second Referee/Scorer/Assistant Scorer/Line Judges during the championship.
An oral test was also held to evaluate the judging and expression abilities of the participants. Videos were selected randomly from the past volleyball matches covering various aspects, such as delayed substitution, blocking touching the net, and hitting the antenna before the ball hits the ground.
Participants were requested to explain a variety of controversial penalties and clearly express their reasons of judgement.
Mr Yuan Lei, President-elect of the Eastern Asia Volleyball Association and Vice President of CVA, attended the closing ceremony on Saturday, together with Ms Liu Yi, Deputy Director of the Competition Department of CVA. Each participant received the AVC international referee certificate from Mr Yuan.
