Four double-headers are set to take place in this weekend’s 17th leg of the women’s Daido Life SV.League in Japan. In the most interesting of them, seventh-placed Astemo Rivale Ibaraki will host fifth-placed Victorina Himeji with a shot at overtaking the opponent in the table.

Astemo Rivale Ibaraki are seventh in the current standings on a 17-13 win-loss ratio and 48 points. Victorina Himeji are fifth on 18-12 and 51. That means that if Astemo win both matches between the two teams this weekend, they will surpass the opponent and take over the fifth place in the table. In the first double-header between Astemo and Himeji this season, back in November, Himeji hammered out two straight-set wins at home, with Thai star Chatchu-On Moksri and Arisa Inoue spearheading their offense. The historic head-to-head record in the Japanese league, however, stands at 9-5 in favour of Astemo. This weekend’s games at the Tsukuba Capio start at 12:05 local time (03:05 UTC).

Table leaders Osaka Marvelous will pay a visit to Queenseis Kariya at the Nishihara Shokai Arena at 14:05 (05:05) on Saturday and at 13:05 (04:05) on Sunday. Osaka are running in first place on 25-5 and 76, while Kariya are 10th on 12-18 and 38. Marvelous have not lost a single set over the last four encounters with Queenseis, but the two teams are yet to meet for the first time this season.

Defending champions NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki will also play on the road this weekend. Okayama Seagulls will entertain them at the ZIP Arena Okayama at 13:05 (04:05) on both competition days. NEC Red Rockets occupy third place in the table on 21-9 and 64. Okayama stand third from the bottom, in 12th place on 10-18 and 31. When the champions hosted Seagulls in January, they beat them by 3-1 in the first game of the double header and in straight sets in the second.

Also at 13:05 (04:05) on both Saturday and Sunday, Saitama Ageo Medics will host winless Gunma Green Wings at the Ageo Citizen Gymnasium. Ageo are fourth in the table on 19-11 and 57. Gunma are trailing bottom, in 14th place on 0-28 and 2. The first double header between the two clubs was held in October. Ageo took the full six points after 3-0 and 3-1 victories over their hosts.
