Pingtung City, Chinese Taipei, July 16, 2025 – The AVC Beach Tour Pingtung Open is poised to spring into action on July 17 at the picturesque Qinzhou Beach in the Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area, nestled in the southernmost city of Chinese Taipei. The tournament welcomed a total of 45 formidable teams including24 in the men’s division to vie not only for glory but also for a winners’ prize of US$2,500 for both the men’s and women’s champions.

Participating nations include host Chinese Taipei, along with Australia, Hong Kong China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Northern Mariana Islands, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand and Vanuatu.

In the men’s competition, the Australian duo of D’Artagnan Potts and Jack Pearse, reigning 2024 Asian champions, lead the seeding as top favorites. Fellow countrymen Paul Burnett and Luk Ryan, titleholders of the 2nd Nuvali Open and silver medalists at the Doha Open, follow closely as second seeds.

Thailand’s Netitorn Muneekul and Poravid Taovato hold the third seed, while compatriots Pithak Tipjan and Wachirawit Muadpha are seeded fourth. Both Thai pairs have previously switched partners in a strategic attempt to discover the most effective pairing, with Netitorn formerly teaming with Wachirawit and Poravid partnering Pithak, a collaboration that led to their triumph at last year’s Taoyuan Open in Chinese Taipei.

Chinese Taipei’s hopes rest on home favorites Hsieh Ya-jen and Wu Hsin-hsien, seeded eighth and quarterfinalists in the 2023 edition, along with Chuang Tzu-lin and Hu Cheng-kang, runners-up in this year’s national championships, seeded 21st.

The women’s draw will be spearheaded by Australia’s Georgia Johnson and Jasmine Alchin, bronze medallists this year’s 2nd Nuvali Open, along with their compatriots and 2nd Nuvali Open champions Jasmine Fleming and Stefanie Fejes, who enter as the top two seeds. Japan’s Asami Shiba and Reika Murakami are seeded third, while the Samila Open title-winning pair Ren Matsumoto and Non Matsumoto, also from Japan, secure the fourth seed.

Thailand’s Taravadee Naraphornrapat and Kongphopsarutawadee Worapeerachayakorn, the 2021 Asian champions, are ranked fifth, with Majabelle Lawac and Sherysyn ToKo of Vanuatu, fresh off their victory at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, earning the sixth seed.

The women’s tournament features eight pools. Pools A, B, and C each contain two teams, while Pools D through H comprise three teams apiece. On the men’s side, the format also involves pools of three teams each.

Following the preliminary pool matches on July 17 and 18, the top two teams from each group will advance to the round of 16, also scheduled for July 18. The quarterfinals and semifinals will unfold on July 19, culminating in the championship matches on July 20.

Throughout the event, the Chinese Taipei Volleyball Association (CTVBA) and the Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area Administration will warmly welcome fans to Dapeng Bay to witness high-caliber international beach volleyball action up close.

Adding to the vibrant tournament atmosphere, organizers have prepared a beachside carnival complete with a live DJ party and a festive Athletes’ Night. A special Indigenous Cultural Market will also surround the venue, offering visitors a taste of local artistry, cuisine, and traditions. Evening concerts by popular singers will cap off each day, celebrating the multicultural energy and coastal charm of Dapeng Bay.

The tournament will commence with the women’s opening match at 8:30am, followed by men’s matches starting from 10:10am. The official opening ceremony will take place at 5:00pm at the competition courts on Qinzhou Beach.

To finalize preparations ahead of Thursday’s competition kickoff, the General Technical Meeting was convened at 6:00pm on July 16 at the Dapeng Bay Holiday Hotel. The meeting was presided over by CTVBA Secretary General Mr Huang Kuo-Kuang, who welcomed all teams and extended his best wishes for their stay in Pingtung. He affirmed the Local Organizing Committee’s commitment to delivering exceptional service and support to ensure the tournament’s success.

Technical Delegate Mr Tomoki Kimishima of Japan briefed teams on technical procedures, while Mr Aprelius Balebu of Indonesia, the Referee Delegate, addressed officiating matters.

Ms Nattalida Sumdangdech from the AVC Beach Volleyball Department was also present to facilitate technical coordination and ensure smooth operations throughout the event.
