AVC BEACH VOLLEYBALL REFEREE CANDIDATES COURSE KICKS OFF AT FIVB DEVELOPMENT CENTER IN ROI ET

Roi Et, Thailand, June 15, 2025 – The AVC Beach Volleyball Referee Candidates Course officially got underway on Sunday at the FIVB Development Center in Roi Et, with 17 candidates including 12 men actively taking part.

The course is being conducted by Dr Kritsada Panaseri, AVC Referee Committee Member and Member of the FIVB Rules of the Game & Refereeing Commission, who is leading both theoretical and practical sessions.

Running from June 15 to 21, the course coincides with the 2025 Asian U21 Beach Volleyball Championships, scheduled from June 18 to 21 at the Nong Ya Ma Community School competition venue in Roi Et. This timing provides candidates with an invaluable opportunity for hands-on experience in a real competition setting.

The week-long program is designed to equip aspiring referees with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to officiate beach volleyball competitions, starting from the grassroots level. Candidates who excel may have opportunities to officiate at continental tournaments and potentially be nominated for the FIVB Beach Volleyball Referee Course, paving the way for an international refereeing career.

The Sunday’s opening ceremony was presided over by Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, President of the Thailand Volleyball Association (TVA), who delivered a warm welcome to the participants.

Also in attendance were prominent volleyball figures including Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, AVC Honorary Life Vice President and Executive Director and TVA Honorary Life Secretary General, Mr Songsak Chareonpong, Chairman of the TVA Referee Committee, former chairman of the AVC Referee Committee and member of the FIVB Rules of the Game & Refereeing Commission; along with Roi Et Mayor Mr Banjong Kositjiranun.

Candidates attending the course represent nine countries: Australia, China, Timor-Leste, Hong Kong China, India, Japan, Iran, the Philippines and Thailand.

In his welcome address, Mr Somporn stated, “I would like to welcome all of you to the AVC Beach Volleyball Referee Candidates Course conducted by Dr Kritsada Panaseri, who brings extensive international refereeing experience, having officiated at Asian Championships, World Championships, and the Olympic Games.”

“This is a valuable opportunity for you to learn from him, share your own experiences, and build connections with your colleagues from other countries. I wish you all great success in the course. I am confident that the knowledge you gain here will contribute significantly to the development and promotion of beach volleyball in your respective countries,” he added.

Mr Somporn also expressed his appreciation to Dr Kritsada, the FIVB Development Center in Roi Et, and Roi Et City for their efforts in organizing the event. “I wish you all a pleasant stay in Roi Et and every success in your refereeing career. With that, I now declare the AVC Beach Volleyball Referee Candidates Course officially open,” he concluded.
