Bangkok, Thailand, September 6, 2025 – The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Board of Administration convened on Saturday at the newly-renovated AVC House in Bangkok to deliberate on crucial matters concerning the future of Asian volleyball, reinforce collaboration among stakeholders, and reaffirm its alignment with the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032.
The comprehensive three-hour meeting was co-chaired by FIVB President Mr Fabio Azevedo and AVC President Mr Ramon Suzara, who also serves as FIVB Executive Vice President, and attended by AVC BA Members.
They included AVC First Senior Executive Vice President Mr Craig Carracher (Australia); AVC Executive Vice President and AVC Zonal Executive Vice President Mr Mohamed Latheef (Maldives, Central); AVC Zonal Executive Vice Presidents Mr Yuan Lei (China, Eastern), Mr Huge Graham (Cook Islands, Oceania & AVC Secretary General), Mr Heyzer Harsono (Indonesia, Southeastern), and Mr Ali Al-Kuwari (Qatar, Western).
Also present were FIVB Director for Asia and Oceania Mr Luis Alexander, AVC Executive Director Mr Shanrit Wongprasert (Thailand), AVC Treasurer Mrs Marina Tsui (Hong Kong, China), AVC Auditor Mr Hassan Al-Farsani (Bahrain), alongside distinguished BA Members and representatives from across Asia including HRH Princess Ayah Bint Faisal (Jordan).
Technical Committee Chairpersons, Volleyball World Chief Business Officer Mr Guido Betti, FIVB Head of Technical and Development Mr Steve Tutton, and Head of Volleyball Empowerment & NF Relations Mr Hitesh Malhotra also joined the meeting.
Before discussions began, AVC President Suzara extended heartfelt thanks to Thailand Volleyball Association President Mr Somporn Chaibangyang and TVA Honorary Life President Mr Shanrit Wongprasert for their instrumental roles in the resounding success of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Thailand 2025, praised by both FIVB and Volleyball World as “the best-ever Women’s World Championship.”
In his welcome remarks, President Suzara said:
“It is my great honor to welcome you all to the AVC Board of Administration Meeting at our new AVC House in Bangkok. With yesterday’s inauguration, we marked a historic milestone and the dawn of a new era for Asian volleyball. Today’s meeting underscores the importance of leadership, collaboration, and alignment with FIVB’s vision for the development of our sport across Asia.”
He further emphasized the vital role of unity and strong governance, adding that AVC will continue to raise standards to ensure athletes, coaches, referees, and fans experience the very best the sport has to offer.
FIVB President Azevedo also addressed the gathering, commending AVC’s leadership:
“I am proud of what you have achieved here. Under President Suzara’s leadership, AVC has created a strong legacy of volleyball development. The AVC House is a magnificent hub for our sport in Asia, and together we are moving forward as one. We are here not for ourselves, but for the benefit of our sport, with athletes and fans at the very heart of everything we do.”
He also outlined the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032, focusing on innovation, empowerment, and expanding volleyball’s global footprint, while reaffirming the FIVB’s motto “Together as One.”
Presentations included updates on the Volleyball Empowerment Program by Mr Malhotra, and a 2025 activity update from FIVB Athletes Commission President Ms Louise Bawden.
The Board reviewed AVC’s competition calendar, financial status, zonal activity reports, and updates from Technical Committees, all of which reflected solid progress and successful initiatives.
On the Competition Regulations, Amendments presented by Mr Kylychbek Sarbaghyshev were approved.
Hosting Rights 2026. The Board confirmed Japan and China as hosts of the Asian Men’s and Women’s Championships, respectively. Bids from the Philippines (AVC Women’s Nations Cup) and Indonesia (AVC Men’s Champions League) were also approved.
ParaVolley Asia-Oceania (PVAO) provided an activity update, while regarding the AVC Gala Dinner 2025, progress report was acknowledged; event to be held November 24–25 in Bali, Indonesia.
Regarding Grand Sport Partnership, a renewed four-year sponsorship deal between Grand Sport and AVC was signed by Mr Thiti Pluchcha-oom and AVC President Suzara during the meeting.
The meeting concluded with optimism, reinforcing AVC’s commitment to unity, innovation, and growth, while remaining firmly aligned with the long-term FIVB Strategic Vision 2032.
