Bangkok, Thailand, August 28, 2024 – The AVC Board of Administration convened its meeting on Wednesday morning at The Grand Fourwings Convention Hotel Bangkok, with AVC President Mrs Rita Subowo chairing the short- and-productive hybrid gathering.
“This is our last meeting for AVC Board Members because tomorrow (August 29) we will have a new election and hopefully, it will run smoothly. First of all, I would like to thank Thailand Volleyball Association President Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, who’s always with us and AVC. Here, Thailand government supports volleyball 200%. We can’t do this in other countries. They gave us AVC Headquarters office, facilities and a lot of things. Therefore, on behalf of AVC, the BA Members would like to thank the TVA President for his dedication and kind support. Also, I would like to thank all Board Members here because of your hard work, your dedication, your kindness and your support. Sometimes, it gives you all the benefits for what you have done in our beloved volleyball,” AVC President was quoted as saying in her welcome speech.
“Each of us in every zone in Asia has a lot of difficulty that you can’t imagine how you can solve it. However, because of you, your dedication and your leadership, we have no important or big issues in our area. I would like to thank FIVB to give us Mr Luis to help us here. Additionally, I would like to thank the FIVB for its efforts to make everything happen. So, Mr Hitesh, Mr Steve and Mr Luis, thank you to help us and support us in order to make our competitions happen. That’s the only way for us in Asia to educate our members, the National Federations, to learn how to organize a good competition. So, we will be very sad if even one competition cannot be organized. We need a hosting Federation. We need them to organize any competition within our calendar. So, please be able to help us and support us to continue our calendar. In recent years, we had no competition to be cancelled.
“So, in our Board Meeting today, we consider important matters which will bring development to our beloved sport and the AVC General Assembly this year is very important because there will be an election for new AVC President, new Board Administration Members and all Technical Committee Members. The AVC Board of Administration wishes the election a smooth run which will show the unity among Asian Volleyball Family,” she added.
After that, TVA President Mr Somporn Chaibangyang delivered a welcome address to all participants. “It’s my great honour and pleasure to welcome all of you to Bangkok, Thailand. As the TVA President, I wish you a pleasant stay in Thailand. While staying here, please get an opportunity to explore the beauty of Thai unique culture. I’m sure that the friendly hospitality of Thai people and the charm of Bangkok will give you an unforgettable memory.”
During the meeting, the agenda of the Minutes of the previous AVC BA Meeting and proposals were approved, while general AVC information and activities including financial situation and competition events were actively reported by AVC Treasurer Mr Cai Yi and Dr Eom Han-Joo respectively.
Dr Eom reported on the overview of the AVC events both in the senior and age-group competitions due to be organized between 2024 and 2028. One topic raised for further discussion was whether the 2024 Asian Women’s Club Championship should be cancelled as no national federation has proposed to become the host candidates. However, as Volleyball World had commercial and media rights for AVC senior events and has a right to select the host national federation of all senior events, the AVC President and some Members suggested that AVC consult with Volleyball World as early as possible to reach the final conclusion.
Regarding the 25th AVC Elective General Assembly, which is due to take place between August 29 and 30 at the Convention Hall inside The Grand Fourwings Convention Hotel Bangkok, AVC Secretary General Mr Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai confirmed that all is set for the meeting, of which the opening ceremony will showcase valuable stories and beauty of Thai culture ways of life and wisdom.
The procedure of the 25th Elective General Assembly including the Installation of Verification Committee and the Protocol of Election for AVC Positions was briefly explained by AVC Secretariat Director Ms Phenyada Fuengthanthip.
Meanwhile, FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graca experienced the baggage delay on Wednesday and happened to turn up to the meeting shortly before the closing remarks of AVC President Mrs Rita Subowo.
Upon his arrival at the meeting, the FIVB President was greeted by the AVC Board Members and invited to deliver his empowering speech to all attendants.
“Tomorrow we will see a lot of things that we’ve changed and what we have done for volleyball. One more important thing is, I think, we have to give opportunity to those who don’t have. This is not only for Asia, but anywhere in the world. Now, we have the Foundation of Volleyball, which is for the really poor people and we give their children an opportunity. We also emphasize on equal opportunities for both men and women. The amount of prize money for the championship is now the same for men’s and women’s events. Let’s work and work and believe in yourself. I’m sure you can do it,” said FIVB President.
AVC President Mrs Rita thanked the FIVB President for his empowering speech, asking BA Members to educate their national federations to contact and have relationship with their NOCs to get the support with the Olympic Solidarity and the Foundation of Volleyball.
