AVC, PNVF HOLD TECHNICAL SEMINAR ON SETTING IN PHILIPPINES

Manila, Philippines, May 23, 2025 – Mr Ramon Suzara, President of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), led the opening of the AVC Technical Seminar on Setting in Manila, featuring a one-day special training session conducted by Chinese volleyball legend Feng Kun, in collaboration with both the AVC and the PNVF.

This initiative stems from a proposal by the AVC Coaches Committee, endorsed during its recent hybrid-format annual meeting on March 7 at the AVC Headquarters in Bangkok. The Committee recommended Feng Kun, a former setter and captain of the Chinese women’s national volleyball team, who led her team to Olympic gold at the 2004 Athens Games and was named both MVP and Best Setter, as the lead instructor for the seminar.

Originally scheduled to coincide with the AVC Women’s Champions League hosted in Philippines from April 20 to 27, 2025, the seminar was postponed to May 23 due to unforeseen circumstances.

The AVC Coaches Committee continues to emphasize the critical role of coaches in developing the sport, fostering athlete growth, and promoting excellence. Their commitment to introducing fresh perspectives and dynamic coaching methodologies aims to drive forward innovative initiatives that will benefit the broader Asian volleyball community.

Also in attendance was Mr Jorge Edson Souza de Brito of Brazil, current head coach of the Philippine women’s national volleyball team, working under the FIVB coaching support program. Top Filipino setters participated in the seminar, engaging in a rare and enriching exchange of elite-level setting techniques and global volleyball knowledge under the guidance of Feng Kun.

Coach de Brito continues to collaborate with the PNVF on training programs, player try-outs, and league scheduling as part of a long-term effort to strengthen the foundation and future of volleyball in the Philippines.
