Tashkent, Uzbekistan — Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) President Ramon Suzara attended the 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), joining leaders of Asian sport in a landmark gathering that brought together representatives of Asian National Olympic Committees (NOCs).
Held on January 26, 2026, in Tashkent, the General Assembly was also attended by H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, underscoring the significance of the event within the Asian sporting movement.
President Suzara participated in the assembly in his capacity as AVC President and as a member of the OCA IF/AF Relations Committee, reaffirming the AVC’s continued commitment to close cooperation with the Olympic Council of Asia and its active role within the broader Asian sports community.
A central highlight of the General Assembly was the election of Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar as the new OCA President. Sheikh Joaan became the 22nd President to serve the Olympic Movement in Asia since the staging of the continent’s first multisport Games in 1913.
In his address, Sheikh Joaan outlined his “Together for Asia” vision, pledging to strengthen unity and development across the continent, support athletic excellence, promote good governance, and ensure that OCA programs are sustainable, inclusive, and credible, while positioning sport as a platform for peace, mutual respect, and cultural understanding.
On the sidelines of the General Assembly, President Suzara engaged in discussions with OCA leadership and representatives of International and Asian Federations, focusing on opportunities to strengthen collaboration, promote good governance, and advance the development of sport across Asia, including indoor volleyball and beach volleyball.
The AVC extended its congratulations to the newly elected OCA President and reiterated its full support for the OCA’s vision and initiatives, reaffirming its commitment to contributing to the continued growth, unity, and excellence of sport throughout the Asian continent.
