AVC TO CONDUCT DRAWING OF LOTS FOR 2022 ASIAN VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS ON MARCH 17

Drawing of lots for 10 Asian Volleyball Championships will be conducted on Thursday

Bangkok, Thailand, March 16, 2022 – Drawing of lots for the 2022 Asian Volleyball Championships will be conducted on Zoom by AVC from 2pm Thailand time (GMT+7) on March 17 to determine pool composition and pool phase for each tournament.

Email invitations had been sent out on March 14 to all participating teams for the 2022 Asian Volleyball Championships as well as related parties to attend the drawing of lots ceremony coming Thursday.

According to the emails with attached files, a total of 10 Championships will be organised this year by AVC and the drawing of lots will be conducted in all tournaments as follows:

The 2022 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Semey, Kazakhstan from April 24 to 30, 2022

Six teams have confirmed participation in the one-week-long tournament. Kazakhstan 1 (organisers), Thailand, Iran, Japan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan 2 will contest the single round robin preliminaries, with the top two teams fighting it out for the eventual crown and the third- and fourth-ranked sides vying for bronze medal.

At the previous edition in Thailand, Kazakhstan’s Altay VC powered past hosts Nakhon Ratchasima QminC in straight sets in the final showdown to reign supreme.

The 2022 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship in Tehran, Iran between May 14 and 20, 2022

Nine teams consisting of Iran A (organisers), Qatar, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Philippines, Iran B and Japan will strut their stuff in the one-week tournament. However, AVC has learned of the withdrawal of the Philippines from the thrilling competition, leaving only eight teams in total to vie for the top honour.

Seedings have been made in serpentine system and according to the results of previous championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Iran A (top seeds and organisers), fourth seeds Thailand and Uzbekistan have already been drawn in Pool A, with second seeds Qatar, third seeds Kazakhstan and Iran B in Pool B. Iraq and Japan will be drawn as the fourth team to Pool A and Pool B on March 17.

At the previous episode last year in Thailand, Sirjan Foulad Iranian pulled off a dramatic 3-1 win against Qatar’s Al-Arabi in the showdown to capture the eventual title, the Iran’s 15th.

The 14th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship in Esfahan, Iran from August 15 to 22, 2022

A strong field of 13 teams consisting of Iran (organisers), Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, China, India, Australia, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Kuwait and Iraq will strive for success in the eight-day tournament.

Seedings have been made in serpentine system and according to the previous results of this championship in Iran. Organisers Iran and 8th-seeds Australia are in Pool A, with top seeds Japan and 7th-seeds India in Pool B. Pool C comprises second seeds Korea and 6th-seeds China, while fourth seeds Chinese Taipei and fifth seeds Thailand are in Pool D.

Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Kuwait and Iraq will be drawn as the third team to Pool A, B and C and the third and fourth teams to Pool D.

The 21st Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship in Semey, Kazakhstan during July 4 and 11, 2022

A total of 12 teams will mount their challenges against one another to vie for the crown. Seedings have also been made in serpentine system and according to the previous results of this championship in Vietnam.

Kazakhstan (organisers) and 8th seeds Iran are in Pool A, with top seeds Japan and 6th seeds Vietnam in Pool B. Pool C consists of second seeds China and fifth seeds Korea, while third seeds Thailand and fourth seeds Chinese Taipei are in Pool D.

Uzbekistan will be drawn to Pool B, C or D to avoid Pool A where there already have two teams from Central Zone, while Australia, India and Philippines will be drawn to the remaining three Pools.

The 14th Asian Women’s U17 Volleyball Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan between June 6 and 13, 2022

Eleven teams have confirmed their participation in the eight-day event. Organisers Uzbekistan, third seeds Thailand, fourth seeds Korea are in Pool A, while Pool B comprises top seeds Japan, second seeds China and fifth seeds Chinese Taipei.

Australia and Philippines will be drawn as fourth team to Pool A and Pool B, while Kazakhstan, Iran and India all from Central Zone will be drawn as fifth team to Pool A and fifth and sixth teams to Pool B in order not to have more than two teams of Central Zone in Pool A and Pool B.

The 2022 AVC Cup for Men in Taipei, Chinese Taipei from August 7 to 14, 2022

A total of 12 teams will be pitted against one another in the eight-day tournament, in which seedings have been made in serpentine system and according to previous results of the Asian Senior Men’s Championship in Japan.

Organisers Chinese Taipei and 10th seeds Bahrain are in Pool A, while Pool B consists of top seeds Iran and 8th seeds Korea. Second seeds Japan and Pakistan are in Pool C, with fifth seeds Qatar and sixth seeds Australia in Pool D. Kazakhstan, Hong Kong China, Thailand and New Zealand will be drawn to Pool A, B, C or D.

The 2022 AVC Cup for Women in Quezon, Philippines between August 21 and 29, 2022

Ten teams will vie for the top honour in the nine-day tournament. With seedings in serpentine system and results of previous Asian Senior Women’s Championship in Korea being brought for consideration, organisers Philippines, third seeds Korea and fourth seeds China are in Pool A, while top seeds Japan, second seeds Thailand, fifth seeds Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei are in Pool B.

Chinese Taipei have been drawn to Pool B to avoid Pool A where they already have two teams from Eastern Zone. Australia, Iran and Vietnam will be drawn as third and fourth teams to Pool A and fourth team to Pool B.

The 21st Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship in Bahrain from August 22 to 29, 2022

A large number of 18 teams have confirmed their participation in the eight-day tournament and will be divided into 6 Pools with three teams apiece playing round-robin preliminaries in each pool.

After the last match of Preliminary Round on August 24, the drawing of lots for Classification 1-12 (top two teams from each pool) will be conducted.

The teams which have already played each other in the Preliminary Round will not meet again in the Classification 1-12, while the third-ranked teams of each pool will be relegated to contest the Classification 13-18 places.

Seedings have been made in serpentine system and according to the results of the previous edition in Bahrain.

Organisers Bahrain and 19th seeds Hong Kong, China are in Pool A, while Pool B comprises top seeds Iran and 13th seeds Japan. Pool C consists of second seeds Korea and 12th seeds Qatar, with third seeds Thailand and 8th seeds Kazakhstan in Pool D. Fourth seeds Iraq and seventh seeds Australia are in Pool E, while Pool F comprises fifth seeds China and sixth seeds Chinese Taipei. Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and the UAE will be drawn to Pool A, B, C, D, E and F.

The 3rd AVC Women’s Challenge Cup Volleyball Championship in Hong Kong, China between August 22 and 28, 2022

Organisers Hong Kong China, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand will be out to prove their talent in the competition. Since the first two editions were cancelled so there is no seeding for any participating team in this championship.

The 3rd AVC Men’s Challenge Cup Volleyball Championship in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from August 28 to September 4, 2022

Seven teams have confirmed participation in the eight-day event. With seedings in serpentine system and previous results of this championship in Sri Lanka brought for consideration, organisers Kyrgyzstan and fifth seeds Uzbekistan are in Pool A, with second seeds Saudi Arabia and third seeds Sri Lanka in Pool B.

Mongolia, Kuwait and Uzbekistan will be drawn as third team to Pool A and third and fourth teams to Pool B.
