AVC WOMEN’S BEACH TOUR PHU YEN OPEN TO GET UNDERWAY ON APRIL 25 IN VIETNAM

Phu Yen, Vietnam, April 25, 2025 – Top three finishers at the recent 2nd Nuvali Open at City of Santa Rosa, Philippines and the 24th Samila Open in Songkhla, Thailand are making their presence felt at the Phu Yen Open, the third AVC Beach Tour of the year which will see 22 beach volleyball teams hit the sand at L’Aurora Phu Yen Beach here.

The “Cloudgate” AVC Women’s Beach Tour Phu Yen Open between April 25 and 28, 2025 has attracted beach volleyball players from Australia, New Zealand, China, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Vanuatu, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong China and Malaysia to vie for top honour, prize money and AVC ranking points.

 

Among top teams taking part in the much-anticipated four-day women’s only event are Australia’s top seeds Jasmine Fleming/Stefanie Fejes, New Zealand’s second seeds Shaunna Polley/Olivia MacDonald and Australia’s third seeds Elizabeth Alchin/Georgia Johnson, three of whom showcased outstanding performances to claim respective gold, silver and bronze medals at the recent AVC Beach Tour 2nd Nuvali Open from April 4 to 7 in Philippines. 

Kiwis Polley/MacDonald and Aussies Fleming/Fejes also claimed respective silver and bronze medals at the Samila Open in Thailand, while Japan’s Ren Matsumoto/Non Matsumoto, who topped the podium at the Samila Open, will kick off their Phu Yen Open campaign as 9th seeds.

Also testing their mettle in the Phu Yen Open here are China’s fourth seeds Yan Xu/Zhou Mingli, winners at the 2024 Wuhan Qingshan Futures, Thailand’s fifth seeds Worapeerachayakorn Kongphopsarutawadee/Tarawadee Naraphornrapat, who clinched gold medal at the 2021 Asian Championship on home soil in Phuket, another China’s pairing, 8th seeds Yu Tong/Jiang Kaiyue, who picked up bronze medal at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Songkhla Futures in April.

Teams were divided into 8 pools, A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H, to compete in pool round-robin preliminaries between Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, with the opening ceremony commencing on Friday. Only top two teams from each pool after the pool play will progress to the elimination round consisting of the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

Matchups for semifinals and finals as well as awards presentation and closing ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 28.

On Thursday, the General Technical Meeting was held at Conference Hall, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with Mr Pham Ngoc Son, Vice President of Volleyball Federation of Vietnam (VFV), and Mr Le Hoang Phu, Vice Director of Phu Yen Sports Department, jointly presiding.

Also in attendance were AVC Technical Delegate Mr Le Hoang Son, AVC Referee Delegate Mr Thomas Chang, Ms Nguyen Thi Nhat Thanh, VFV Director of International Relations & Events (Programes), and AVC Neutral and Local Referees.

All participating teams actively joined the meeting to hear the rules of the game and acknowledge their pools and match schedule in order that they can start up with strategic plans in their preparation for tough matches in Phu Yen.

Teams have been requested to attend the opening ceremony on Friday at the venue from 08.00am local time apart from joining the drawing of lots for round of 16 at the venue and sightseeing organised by local organisers on Saturday.
