Pasig City, Philippines, April 21, 2025 – Club teams from China, Kazakhstan, Thailand and Chinese Taipei triumphed over their respective match-ups in the second day of the 1st AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League on Monday at the PhilSports Arena.
Pool C produced the first five-setter of the competition after BAIC Motor Volleyball Club (CHN) completed a reverse sweep, 3-2 (22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-13, 15-10) against VTV Binh Dien Long An (VIE). Captain Jin Ye must have played the match of her life as she posted 30 points in the Chinese side’s second victory in the competition.
Later in Pool A, Zhetysu VC captured straight sets, 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-17) against the Philippines’ Creamline Cool Smashers. Tatyana Nikitina (14 points), Karyna Denysova (12 points) and Valeriya Yakutina (12 points) contributed double-digit figures for the Kazakh club team’s first win in the competition.
In Pool D, Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima QminC VC eliminated Australia’s Queensland Pirates from the competition, after a straight sets win, 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-12).
Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei’s Taipower zoomed to the top of Pool B, after a 3-1 defeat (25-15, 25-16, 19-25, 25-20) of Philippine club team Petro Gazz Angels. Hsu Wan-Yun led the winning team with 18 points from 16 attacks and 2 service winners. Giovanna Day scored 18 points in the defeat.
The preliminary round concludes on Tuesday, with a rest and recovery day on Wednesday. The quarterfinal phase will be played on Thursday and Friday, to determine the final four teams set for Saturday’s semifinal showdown. The finals, as scheduled on Sunday, will confirm the top two teams to qualify in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship.
