CAVA CHARTS A BOLD PATH FORWARD AT ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING IN KATHMANDU

Kathmandu, Nepal, April 25, 2025 – The Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) successfully held its Annual General Meeting on April 25 at Dusit Princess Hotel in Kathmandu. The event, held in two sessions, brought together regional and international volleyball leaders to celebrate milestones, honor excellence, and shape the future of the sport in Central Asia.

The morning session was graced by the presence of Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports of Nepal, Mr Teju Lal Chaudhary, and Mr.Tanka Lal Ghissing, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council, who attended at the invitation of Mr Jitendra Bahadur Chand, President of the Nepal Volleyball Association.

Their participation signaled strong governmental support for the growth of volleyball in the region. A notable moment during the session was the presentation of a token of appreciation to CAVA President Mr Mohamed Latheef in recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedicated service to the development of volleyball in Central Asia.

A major highlight of the morning was the official launch of the CAVA Awards, designed to recognize and promote excellence within the volleyball community.

The Awards include four categories: the International Excellence Award, which honors National Federations achieving medals in FIVB or AVC events; the Federations of the Year Award, awarded to the top three federations based on points accumulated through volleyball and beach volleyball activities throughout the year; the Performance Excellence Award, recognizing medal-winning performances in CAVA events; and the Distinguished Service Award, which honors individuals, companies, or institutions who have made meaningful contributions to the sport and to CAVA. Recipients of the Distinguished Service Award will receive the official CAVA medal.

The afternoon session brought together 13 National Federations onsite, and featured online participation of Mr Hugh Graham, Secretary General of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), and Mr. Hitesh Malhotra, representing the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), symbolizing strong partnerships with continental and global volleyball authorities.

Significant leadership appointments were confirmed during the session. Mr Jamshid Fayziev was officially appointed as Executive Director of CAVA, following a recommendation by Mr Kylych Sarbaghyshev and unanimous support from President Latheef and all member federations. 

In addition, Mr Mohammad Saeed, General Secretary of the Volleyball Association of Maldives, and Mr M A Latif Shahrear Zahedee, Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation, were appointed to the CAVA Board of Administration. These appointments came at the formal request of the Volleyball Association of Maldives and the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation, respectively, to replace their current representatives on the Board.

During the second session, the CAVA Board of Administration held a focused discussion and agreed to establish a committee responsible for developing enhanced criteria for the newly launched CAVA Awards. The committee was entrusted with formulating a transparent and effective evaluation framework and mandated to present the finalized criteria at least one month prior to each Annual General Meeting, ensuring consistency, fairness, and credibility in the selection process moving forward.

The session also included the presentation and discussion of the proposed CAVA 2025 Events Calendar, outlining key plans for the upcoming year. In addition, the 2026 events calendar was reviewed and approved in principle, with the understanding that it will be revised and realigned upon the release of the AVC Calendar to ensure synchronization with continental schedules.

President Latheef delivered the 2024 CAVA Annual Report, which showcased a year of strong activity and regional impact. A total of ten volleyball events were successfully conducted, featuring 54 teams from 14 countries, involving 712 athletes across 145 matches.

Beach volleyball saw two official events, with 18 teams and 36 athletes playing 40 matches. Public engagement continued to soar, with over 310,000 spectators attending events and more than 30 million views recorded via live streaming platforms.

Each National Federation presented its 2024 activity report, encouraging transparency, shared learning, and continued collaboration. The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of unity and purpose, as CAVA reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the sport through strong leadership, inclusive governance, and strategic investment in the future of volleyball and beach volleyball across Central Asia.
