CAVA MEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2025 BEGINS IN MALE WITH GRAND OPENING CEREMONY AND THRILLING MATCHES

Malé, Maldives, July 17, 2025 – The Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Men’s Champions League 2025 officially kicked off in Malé on July 17 with an electrifying opening ceremony and the first set of matches, marking a significant moment for regional volleyball. Hosted at the Social Centre Indoor Hall, the tournament brings together top clubs from six nations to compete in a week-long celebration of talent, unity, and sportsmanship.

The prestigious event began with a vibrant and colorful opening ceremony graced by the Chief Guest, Hon. Abdulla Rafiu, Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation of the Maldives. The highlight of the evening was the opening address delivered by Mr. Mohamed Latheef, AVC Executive Vice President, President of the Volleyball Association of Maldives and President of CAVA.

President Latheef’s Opening Remarks

In his speech, President Latheef extended a warm welcome to all participating teams, officials, and dignitaries. He thanked the Hon. Minister for his presence and highlighted the Maldivian government’s commitment to developing youth and sports. “This tournament is not just a showcase of skill; it is a symbol of dedication and the unity that drives the growth of volleyball in Central and South Asia,” he said.

Latheef expressed heartfelt gratitude to the national federations of Nepal, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, and the Maldives for their participation, acknowledging their relentless work in nurturing volleyball talent. He also thanked the FIVB and AVC leadership for their ongoing support and guidance.

His remarks concluded with a rallying message to all players: “May your matches be filled with skill, determination, and, above all, the spirit of fair play.”

 Teams and Format

Six elite clubs are contesting the Champions League 2025 in a round-robin format:

Zhaiyk VC (Kazakhstan)

Sri Lanka Ports Authority (Sri Lanka)

Bishkek-Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan)

Help Nepal Sports Club (Nepal)

Dhivehi Sifainge Club (Maldives)

Club HDC (Maldives)

The preliminary round runs from 17–23 July, with each match promising high-stakes competition and passionate performances.

Day 1 Match Results

Match 1: Zhaiyk VC (KAZ) vs. Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLP)

The tournament’s opening match saw a commanding performance from Zhaiyk VC, whic defeated SLP 3–1 (22–25, 25–14, 25–16, 25–15). Vitaliy Vorivodin led the charge for Zhaiyk with 17 points, while Lasindu Wasanthapriya contributed 15 points for SLP.

Match 2: Club HDC (MDV) vs. Bishkek-Kyrgyzstan (KGZ)

In an exciting straight-sets victory, Club HDC defeated Bishkek-Kyrgyzstan 3–0 (27–25, 26–24, 25–20). Shamaail Hussain stood out for HDC, scoring 12 points, while Nurislam Medetbek Uulu was the best scorer for BKZ with 9 points.

Match 3: Dhivehi Sifainge Club (MDV) vs. Help Nepal Sports Club (NEP)

The final match of Day 1 featured an intense four-set battle, with DSC overcoming HNS 3–1 (31–33, 25–20, 25–22, 25–20). Maldives’ Bosco Dete scored a game-high 26 points, while Nepal’s Ali Usman Faryad tallied 27 points in a remarkable individual effort.

The opening day drew over 2,500 enthusiastic spectators to the Social Centre Indoor Hall, setting a thrilling tone for the rest of the tournament. With each match, the energy continues to build as teams eye the championship title and the pride of their nations.
