CAVA WOMEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SET TO BEGIN IN MALDIVES SEPTEMBER 15

Malé, Maldives, September 14, 2024 – The much-anticipated CAVA Women’s Club Volleyball Championship is set to kick off on Sunday, bringing together six elite clubs from five countries – Maldives, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, and Tajikistan. The week-long competition, being held between September 15 and 21 in the Maldives’ capital, will showcase the top talents from the region in a celebration of women’s volleyball.

The tournament is organized by the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) and hosted by the Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM). The matches will take place at the Social Indoor Center, where the top women’s clubs from these nations will compete for regional supremacy.

Preliminary Inquiry and Referee Clinic

On the eve of the championship, the preliminary inquiry was held in the morning session, with all participating teams officially registering and completing the necessary formalities for the competition. Teams provided the required documentation and confirmed technical and refereeing matters ahead of the event.

In the Saturday afternoon, a two-phase referee clinic, consisting of both theoretical and practical sessions, was conducted to ensure all officials were fully prepared for the event. Twenty-five local referees including scorers and line judges will be contributing to this championship, reflecting a strong local presence and development in officiating.

General Technical Meeting 

At 9:00 pm, the General Technical Meeting took place at the Social Indoor Center, chaired by VAM and CAVA President Mr Mohamed Latheef, himself AVC Executive Vice President and AVC Zonal Executive Vice President representing Central Zone.

During the meeting, Mr Latheef welcomed all participants and specially acknowledged Mr Jamshid Shukrulloevich Fayziev, Vice President of the Uzbekistan Volleyball Federation, congratulating Uzbekistan on being selected to host the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship in 2025. 

CC President and Technical Delegate Ms Sarah Hessaby extended her congratulations to Mr Latheef for his recent appointment as the Executive Vice President of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC). She emphasized key technical elements of the competition, ensuring all teams are ready to perform at their best throughout the event.

VAM Vice President Mr Mohamed Sajid expressed his satisfaction with the high standards maintained by CAVA events, noting the shift from manual to electronic systems for match statistics (VIS), with local volleyball personnel being trained in the new system.

 

Referee Delegate Highlights Event’s Officiating Standards

Referee Delegate Mr Ahmed Saleem highlighted the high level of preparation by local referees for this prestigious event. “We are ensuring that the best referees from CAVA are utilized for this competition, while also giving opportunities to inexperienced officials to develop through this experience. Refereeing, just like other areas of volleyball development, is progressing with every tournament,” said Saleem.

Opening Ceremony and Match Schedule

The CAVA Women’s Club Championship will officially begin Sunday, September 15 with two highly anticipated matches, followed by the opening ceremony in the evening, where all participating teams will be present at the main venue to celebrate the beginning of this prestigious competition at 8:00 pm local time. The curtain-raiser will be held after that with Maldives Police Club taking on VC Diamed of Tajikistan.

13:30pm: Sri Lanka Air Force (Sri Lanka) vs. Club Wamco (Maldives)

16:00pm: Nepal Police Club (Nepal) vs Humo VC (Uzbekistan)

21:30pm: Maldives Police Club (Maldives) vs VC Diamed (Tajikistan)

The tournament is expected to bring thrilling volleyball action as teams compete for the top honor in the Central Asian region, with the final match to take place on September 21. Fans in the Maldives and across the region are eagerly awaiting to witness top-level volleyball and see which club will emerge as the champions of the 2024 CAVA Women’s Club Championship.
