Kathmandu, Nepal, August 1, 2024 – The CAVA Women’s Nations League commenced with a dynamic start as hosts Nepal and India secured impressive victories against Sri Lanka and Iran respectively on the opening day.
In a display of skill and teamwork, Nepal triumphed over Sri Lanka with a straight-set win of 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-19). Simultaneously, India showcased their prowess by defeating Iran 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 25-11).
Prior to the inaugural matches, a grand opening ceremony was held, graced by esteemed officials including Mr Tejulal Chaudhari, the Minister of Youth and Sports, and Mr Tankalal Ghising, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council. Their presence underscored the significance of this event in promoting women’s sports in the region.
The competition continues on August 2 with Iran set to face Sri Lanka at 3:00pm local time, followed by India taking on the Maldives at 5:15pm. Hosts Nepal will have a rest day.
The opening day saw an enthusiastic crowd of over 3,500 fans who thronged into the venue, cheering not only for the home team but also their favorite invited teams, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
