Kathmandu, Nepal, December 9, 2024 – The third day of the 2024 CAVA Men’s Club Volleyball Championship brought excitement and drama to the National Sports Council Covered Hall as teams battled fiercely to secure crucial victories.
In the first match, Calicut Heroes from India secured a sensational 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-21) victory over Club HDC from Maldives.
Outside hitter Ervin Varghese and middle blocker Shikhar Singh each contributed 11 points for Calicut Heroes, which demonstrated solid teamwork and precision throughout the match.
Outside hitter Chirag from India stood out with an impressive 15 points from 11 attacks and 4 blocks for Club HDC.
The second match saw Iran Club, fresh from 3-2 win against Club HDC from Maldives the previous day, escape defeat after going down to Gandaki Pradesh of Nepal in the closely-contested first two sets 26-28, 23-25, but they shrugged off the rust to claim the next three sets 25-21, 25-22, 15-13 for the eventual 3-2 win.
Amir Naderi Noureyni excelled in this match as the 201cm-tall Iranian outside hitter scored 21 points through 18 attacks, 2 blocks and one ace to steer Iran Club to another 3-2 win in the eight-day championship.
Outside hitter Sahil Kumar from India delivered a phenomenal performance, scoring a tournament-high 33 points from 31 attacks, one block and one ace for Gandaki Pradesh.
After three days, hosts Help Nepal Sports Club and Iran Club became the only two unbeaten teams. However, HNC went atop the five-team standing with 5 points from two wins in a row, with Iran Club in close second position after bagging only 4 points from two straight wins.
India’s Calicut Heroes came in third place with 4 points from one win against one loss, while Club HDC of Maldives and Gandaki Pradesh of Nepal finished respective fourth and fifth places with 3 points from one win against two losses and 2 points from three straight losses.
Tuesday, December 10, is a rest day, giving players and teams an opportunity to recover and strategize. Matches will resume the following day, with Iran Club taking on India’s Calicut Heroes in the first match, while Help Nepal Sports Club will face off against Club HDC of Maldives in the second encounter.
HNC, Iran Club and Calicut Heroes each have two more matches in the single round-robin preliminaries, while Club HDC and Gandaki Pradesh have one one remaining.
