Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, June 8, 2022 – Powerful China notched their second victory in the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship after demolishing Philippines in a completely one-sided affair 25-7, 25-7, 25-13 in their third Pool B clash at the Nakhon Pathom Sports Center Gymnasium.
After their mixed fortunes in the first two Pool B encounters with 0-3 loss to defending and eight-time champions Japan and 3-0 win against Chinese Taipei the previous day, China continued their good show on Wednesday.
Starting strongly, China worked very good as a well-oiled machine penetrating the rivals’ defence with their aggressive attacks and solid blocks to claim the first two sets with ease and with the same margin 25-7, 25-7.
The Philippines did not want to surrender easily and therefore, hit back bravely in the third set to make amends for losses in the first two, but the Chinese defence proved impeccable, allowing the rivals scoring difficulties. With the wind in their sails, China remained superior in every department to eventually capture the comfortable set 25-13 for an exceptional 3-0 win.
Chen Xiyue weighed in with huge 21 points for China, while no Philippine players scored double digits, with Mae De Leon Dona bagging only 5 points for the Filipinas.
“I used my main players in this match against Philippines even if I knew their match would be easy because I wanted my players to stay in shape and get ready for their next matches. A tough task awaits us out there,” said China’s head coach Wen Ye.
