Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, July 5, 2022 – China captured their second win in the 21st Asian Women’s U20 Volleyball Championship, with a 3-0 match (25-10, 25-15, 25-15) over India in Pool B encounter of the Preliminary Round on Tuesday at the Kazakh capital’s NU Sports Centre which saw a Chinese squad growing in both momentum and confidence.
Oustide hitter Zhuang Yushan led all scorers on the board with a total of 14 points, all made on attacks.
“We prepared well for this competition, and it is our goal to give our best each time on the court.” said Zhuang Yushan.
The Chinese side dominated the match in all fronts, connecting in both attack (49 points) and block (5 points). Their advantage in height (averaging 184 cm) translated well into how they performed against their opponents.
Setter Yin Xiaolan distributed her plays well, enabling each one on court to score. This also showed a Chinese team with nearly seamless system where all hitters could be poised and ready to attack at any given time.
Captain Wang Yifan (10 points) Li Xuemeng (10 points) provided the firepower from the flanks, while Zhang Hongziyan (10 points) performed well with her middle attack.
India showed they could effectively set up their offence if they posted well in their serve-receive. Outside hitter Gopika Gunasekaran registed double-digits (10 points) to lead her team in Tuesday’s defeat. However, they could only sustain good floor defence long enough for a few rallies.
Meanwhile, China maintained power all match long, even from the service line. As they closed out in the final plays, they were able to score off a total of 10 service winners.
“I am pretty satisfied with our performance after winning today, but we know we have more room to improve in the coming matches here,” added Zhuang Yushan.
China will face defending champions Japan on Wednesday, July 6, at 15:00 local time. India will meet Uzbekistan, in an earlier match at 12:30 local time.
