Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, July 7, 2022 – China swept Pool B of the Preliminary Round of the 21st Asian Women’s U20 Volleyball Championship after winning 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-12, 25-20) against Chinese Taipei on Thursday at Nur-Sultan’s NU Sports Centre.
China’s Zhuang Yushan delivered massively, tallying 21 points (16 attacks, 4 big aces and a block) proving her consistent performance across all completed matches.
Chinese Taipei captain Peng Yu-Rou scored 19 points (17 attacks, 2 service aces) in the loss.
China enforced a solid performance from the onset, managing their own side of the court with barely any unforced errors. In fact, they played the perfect first set, while the opponents fell to an unforced error count of 10.
Chinese Taipei possessed the goods to get their system going. They showed this during the second set, as they ran tight plays and well-aimed attacks in order to outsmart the taller opponents.
On several occasions, they also lined up well-timed blocks, showing precise approximation of the opponents’ attacking rhythm. What also helped their cause was their patience and endurance in manning the floor. As they played good defence, they stood a chance to set up their counter-attacks.
China continued to perform well, and quell potential rallies by unleashing powerful serves. They also reinforced their block defence against the crafty plays of their opponents. Setter Yin Xiaolan, who stepped from the bench, devised her plays well, allowing Zhuang Yushan and Zhuang Xinru to unleash power attacks. Their opponents tried to make a run in the fourth set, but China simply forged ahead, connecting solidly from the wing.
China finish the Preliminary Round on top of Pool B, and will resume play on Sunday, July 10, as they await their opponents in the semi-final round. Chinese Taipei will face Uzbekistan on Saturday, July 9, in the 15:00 match (local time).
