Gresik, East Java, Indonesia, June 21, 2023 – Chinese Taipei eased into their third consecutive victory after a straight-set match, 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-16) over Uzbekistan in Pool F of the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup for Women on Wednesday afternoon at the Tri Dharma Petrokimia Gresik Gymnasium.
Captain Chen Tzu-Ya and Lin Shu-Ho wielded their power from the flanks, scoring 14 points and 9 points respectively. Kan Ko-Hui powered a strong presence at the middle.
The Chinese Taipei side posted such high efficiency in attack, showing their control in all skills and aspects necessary for a good performance. They served well, they passed well, they defended well, and they executed transitions based on good decision-making. This also showed a tight system that they ran as a singular unit. With this, they dominated in all scoring fields, tallying 49 attacks, 6 service aces and 4 blocks.
Uzbekistan were unable to respond to nor surmount the huge challenge that faced them. They tried to pull off running the middle attack of Boymirzayeva Dilnoza, but this was clearly not enough. Foremost, they needed to do well in their passing, for everything else to follow.
Chinese Taipei slid into a comfortable position that head coach Chen Yu-An found time and room to play his three setters.
“The three setters can bring in different styles and tempos and I wanted to see how that could materialize when we play our next matches,” he said.
The teams return from their rest and recovery day with Chinese Taipei set dispute the top spot in Pool F against Vietnam on June 23, Friday, at 14:00 local time.
“We last met with Vietnam in the AVC Club Championship, with several players included here in the Challenge Cup. At that time, we made many errors, and we want to be able to overcome similar situations with the right reaction or decision this time.” Chen Yu-An added.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan will play in the earlier match at 08:30 local time to complete the Classification matches going into the semi-final round.
