Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, June 11, 2022 – Chinese Taipei downed India in straight sets 25-19, 25-18, 25-11 in their last preliminary clash in the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship at Nakhon Pathom Sports Center Gymnasium on Saturday.
With the convincing win, Chinese Taipei overtook Kazakhstan as the third place in Pool B with 9 points from 3 wins against 2 losses. Kazakhstan, which earlier maintained their third spot with 6 points following the straight-set loss to China, dropped to fourth position in the pool.
India completed their first-round campaign in 5th place in Pool B with 3 points from one win against 4 losses. As Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan will next contest the 5th-8th playoffs, India will fight for the 9th position in this topflight championship.
Against India on Saturday, Chinese Taipei excelled in defence and had good teamwork, with their spectacular attacks overcoming the rivals’ blocks. Though struggling to win the first two sets 25-19, 25-18, Chinese Taipei went on their fine form to win the comfortable third set 25-11 and match.
Chen Ssu-ye emerged as the top scorer of Chinese Taipei after scoring a team-high 21 points including 20 attacks from 36 attempts. Kavita led India with 10 points, all from her attacks.
Chen Mei-Ching, head coach of Chinese Taipei, said after the match, “Regarding the whole game, we are getting better and better, but I think we had won this match because of our better individual ability. However, the first-ball reception remains a big problem of our team despite the fact that my players had the better control of the ball today.”
