CRAIG CARRACHER ELECTED TO AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE EXECUTIVE BOARD

Volleyball leader to help guide Olympic direction on road to Brisbane 2032

FIVB Board of Administration member and Beach Volleyball Commission president Craig Carracher AM has been elected to the Executive Board of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) at its Annual General Meeting held Saturday in Sydney.

Carracher has served as a Director of the AOC since 2015. He joins the Executive alongside newly elected members Susie O’Neill and Craig Bingham. Returning members include AOC President Ian Chesterman, Vice Presidents Evelyn Halls and Matt Allen, IOC Member Jess Fox and Athletes’ Commission Chair Brodie Summers.

The AOC Executive Board is responsible for strategic oversight of the Olympic Movement in Australia as the nation prepares to host the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

Carracher also chairs the Beach Volleyball Committee of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and is a member of the AVC Board. He previously held the role of AVC Zonal Executive Vice President and served an earlier term on the FIVB Board from 2013 to 2016.

He has been President of Volleyball Australia since 2011 and serves on the board of the Australian Olympic Foundation, including its Investment Advisory Committee.

A former national-level beach volleyball player, Carracher competed on the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour from 1989 to 2010 and contributed to the sport’s growth ahead of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Outside of sport, he is Executive Chairman and founder of Scape Group, Australia’s largest provider of purpose-built student accommodation. His previous roles include senior executive and legal positions at Consolidated Press Holdings, Minter Ellison and several ASX-listed companies. He holds law degrees from the University of Sydney and the University of Oxford.

In 2023, Carracher was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to volleyball administration.
