Bangkok, Thailand, February 14, 2021 – Diamond Food produced one of their best performances in the Thailand Volleyball League following their fantastic comeback 3-2 win against defending and three-time champions Supreme Chonburi E-Tech in the fourth week of the country’s top-flight competition at Nimibutr Gymnasium here on Saturday.
Diamond Food, aggressively strong with the likes of powerful Onuma Sittirak, hard-hitting Sasipaporn Janthawisut, Malika Kanthong and veteran Amporn Hyapha, bounced back from the first-set loss to star-studded Supreme to win the hard-fought five-set thriller 22-25, 25-21,17-25, 25-20, 15-12.
Despite the Saturday’s loss, Supreme, former consecutive two-time Asian Women’s Club champions which fielded many strong spikers including sensation Ajcharaporn Kongyot, who claimed the MVP award in the previous season, superstar spiker Pleumjit Thinkaow, Wipawee Srithong, Watchareeya Nualjaem and Wilavan Apinyapong, remained atop the women’s standings with 10 points from three wins against one loss.
Diamond Food, Nakhon Ratchasima The Mall’s VC and Khonkaen Star had 9 points apiece from identical performances of three wins against one loss. However, with the better sets win/loss ratio, Khonkaen Star came in second place, while Nakhon Ratchasima The Mall’s VC and Diamond Food are trailing in third and fourth places respectively.
In the other women’s match on Saturday, ace spiker Chutchu-on Moksri led four-time champions Nakhon Ratchasima The Mall’s VC to a convincing straight-set 25-9 25-12 25-18 win against bottom-placed Samut Prakan.
On Sunday, Khonkaen Star and 3BB Nakornnont faced no issues in brushing off their respective rivals in comfortable three-setter. Khonkaen Star downed Proflex 25-20, 25-16, 25-18, while 3BB Nakornnont, spearheaded by Thailand national player Pimpichaya Kokrum, trounced Rangsit University 25-12, 25-12, 25-12.
Meanwhile, in the men’s competition, Diamond Food, which finished second for two times in a row in the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 season, and reigning and six-time winners Nakhon Ratchasima The Mall’s VC maintained their unbeaten run in the Thailand League this week.
On Saturday, Diamond Food, the only team which have yet dropped a single set to their respective rivals, outclassed Prince VC in straight sets 25-18, 25-16, 25-21 to stay on the top of the men’s standings with 12 points from four straight wins.
Nakhon Ratchasima The Mall’s VC, led by talented Wanchai Tabwises, who landed the MVP title in the previous season, powered past lacklustrous Kasetsart University in convincing three sets 25-20, 25-20, 25-16 to come in second place overall with 12 points from four successive wins.
The Sunday’s matches saw Air Force pull off a thrilling 25-23 25-19 25-18 win against Visakha and Phitsanulok struggle to beat Mor Asia Koh Kood Cabana in hard-fought three-setter 25-22, 25-18, 26-24.
After four weeks, Phitsanulok and Air Force bagged similar 6 points from two wins against two losses to trail in third and fourth places respectively.
Four matches will be held in mid-week, February 17, with Mor Asia Koh Kood Cabana taking on Air Force and Prince playing Visakha in the men’s event. The women’s matches see Rangsit go up against Khonkaen Star and Supreme challenge 3BB Nakornnont.
