Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, September 23, 2024 – Vietnam’s Duc Giang Chemical closed off their bid in the 2024 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship by taking fifth place after a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-10) defeat of the Philippines’ Monolith Sky Risers.
Elena Samoilenko was the best scorer on the board, posting a match-high 17 points in Saturday afternoon’s victory at Chartchai Hall.
Duc Giang Chemical possessed a nearly complete armory going into the opening set. They ran their plays on Tran Thu Linh and Elena Samoilenko, they executed well-timed blocks, and they also served well.
Monolith Sky Risers tried to devise ways to firm up their backcourt to set up their counterattack. They enabled Alyssa Jae Solomon and Evangeline Alinsug at the flanks, but went on to deal with mishandled plays.
While the Philippines’ club team showed they ran transitions well, Duc Giang Chemical had the clear edge in this aspect. They opted for better decisions and tighter execution on the fly.
The Vietnam club looked even more speedy and cohesive in the second set, showing more seamless passing and completion of attacks. When their opponents managed to prolong rallies, they were resilient in keeping the ball alive to recycle their plays once more.
The huge advantage in both scoring and in morale carried over to the third set as Duc Giang Chemical dominated in all scoring fields for the fifth place finish in their first-ever participation in the annual meet for Asian club teams.
