Langkawi, Malaysia, April 14, 2019 – The United States’ Lara Dykstra and Cassie House won their second straight FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour title, following their three-set win at the Langkawi 1-star on Sunday.
Dykstra and House had a tough day on the last day at Langkawi, but the USA pair still managed to make a comeback against their rivals in the semifinal and final round of play.
First, they eluded Greece’s Konstantina Tsopoulou and Dimitra Manavi in the semifinal 2-1 (17-21, 21-8, 19-17), then foiled the strong start of Ukraine’s Diana Lunina and Maryna Samoday in the final with a tight finish 2-1 (16-21, 21-19, 15-13).
The USA pair won their first gold medal in Battambang, Cambodia on April 7, while the Ukrainian pair placed third in Satun, Thailand on April 11.
In the bronze medal match, Greece’s Tsopoulou and Manavi defeated Japan’s Mayu Sawame and Yurika Sakaguchi 2-1 (13-21, 21-13, 15-13).
The last time Greece had a team reach a women’s FIVB World Tour medal match was on April 7 at the Battambang 1-star, where they placed second behind Dykstra and House.
