EIGHT AUSTRALIAN TEAMS SELECTED FOR ASIAN BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Volleyball Australia announced the eight teams which have been selected to compete at the 2024 Asian Beach Volleyball Championships in Philippines from on 5-10 November. 

The selections see a mix of youth and experience pulling on the green and gold, with four Paris Olympians going to the event alongside 12 players aged 18 to 23.

Tom Hodges and Zach Schubert lead the charge and will be looking to defend the title they won last year.

Olympic teammates Izac Carracher and Mark Nicolaidis have similar aspirations after being eliminated by Paul Burnett and Chris McHugh at last year’s event.

Stefie Fejes and Jasmine Fleming made it to the quarter-finals for a fifth place finish in 2021 but this year line up with different partners as they chase AVC glory.

Fejes will reconnect with long-time partner Jana Milutinovic while Fleming is teaming up with Lizzie Alchin.

While the step up to Senior competition does raise the stakes, Fleming, Fejes, Cam Zajer and Alisha Stevens have all won Asian Championships at U19 or U21 level.

National Performance Director Craig Marshall said that while a late confirmation date for the Asian Championships has not been ideal, he’s expecting a strong performance from the players who have been selected.

“We believe we’ve selected 16 players who are capable of performing strongly in the Philippines and they know they have the Australian Volleyball community right behind them,” he said. 

“We head to the Philippines aiming to finish on top in the Asian Championships and confirm Australia’s high standing in the Asian zone.”
