EXCITING START TO 2024 CAVA WOMEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP IN MALDIVES

Male’, Makdives, September 15, 2024 – The 2024 CAVA Women’s Club Volleyball Championship kicked off with a thrilling display of volleyball excellence as teams battled fiercely on the first day of pool preliminaries, as the opening day set the stage for an exciting tournament, with passionate performances from the competing clubs.

 

Club Wamco of Maldives vs Air Force of Sri Lanka

The first match saw a stunning comeback from Club Wamco of Maldives, which overcame a first-set defeat to secure a 3-1 victory (20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-19) against Air Force of Sri Lanka. After losing the first set 20-25, Wamco quickly regrouped and dominated the next three sets with improved coordination and sharp plays.

The standout player for Wamco, Kuttika Kaewpin from Thailand, delivered an exceptional performance with 30 points, earning her the title of the best scorer of the match. For Air Force, Prasadani Jayamaha H. contributed 12 points, leading the Sri Lankan side.

Humo Volleyball Club of Uzbekistan vs Nepal Police Club

In the second match, Nepal Police Club emerged victorious with a straight-set (25-19, 27-25, 25-19) win over Humo Volleyball Club of Uzbekistan. The match featured intense rallies and a closely contested second set, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats. Usha Bhandari was the star player for Nepal Police Club, scoring a remarkable 56 points, while Dilnoza Boymirzaeva led Humo with 10 points.

The match was witnessed by Mr Jamshid Shukrulloevich Fayziev, Vice President of Uzbekistan Volleyball Federation, and Mr Baharat Shah and Mr Shyam Krishna Shrestha from the Nepal Volleyball Association, adding to the excitement of the day.

Opening Ceremony and Final Match of the Day

The opening ceremony was held at 8:00pm local time, just before the final match of the day and was graced by Chief Guest, Ms Aishath Samah, President of the Maldives National Sports Council.

During the ceremony, Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) and Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) President Mr Mohamed Latheef, himself AVC Executive Vice President and AVC Zonal Executive Vice President representing Central Zone, expressed his gratitude to the President of the Maldives, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, for his unwavering support in developing volleyball in the Maldives. Latheef highlighted the President’s commitment to sports infrastructure and his vision for fostering future generations of athletes.

In his speech, Latheef signified the teams and stated, “Your dedication to promoting volleyball as a key component of our national identity is truly commendable, and we are excited to see the positive impact of your initiatives on our sporting community. Thank you for your support and vision for a brighter future in Maldivian sports.”

Following the speech, the Chief Guest signed the official event ball, marking the formal commencement of the championship.

Maldives Police Club vs VC Diamed of Tajikistan

 

The final match of the day saw Maldives Police Club secure a dominant 3-0 win (25-16, 25-14, 25-19) over VC Diamed of Tajikistan, closing out the day with a commanding performance.
