Unbeaten F45 reigned supreme in the first edition of the QVA Women’s Open Volleyball Championship at the Qatar Volleyball Association Hall on Saturday, with Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Department, and Mr Ali bin Ghanem al-Kuwari, President of QVA and West Asia Volleyball Association, jointly presiding over the awards presentation and closing ceremony.

The single round-robin competition, organized by the Qatar Volleyball Association, started on October 20, with a total of 10 teams strutting their stuff in the inaugural women’s event comprising Qatar SC, Al Arabi, Al Gharafa, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar University, Doha University, Wa’ed Academy, F45, Lions Sri Lanka and Academy team Sportlab.
Honoring referees officiating in the championship
Each participating team played 9 matches, each of which only two sets were contested. Teams winning 2-0 bagged 3 points, with the losers claiming no point. Teams received 2 points if winning 2-1, with the losers collecting one point. At conclusion of 9 matches, teams with the most wins were ranked according to their performances and the total points obtained from their matches. Respective trophies and medals went to the top three teams during the awards presentation.
F45 earlier completed their campaign unbeaten in all 9 matches to be eventually presented with the Championship Cup and gold medals by Her Excellency, while Wa’ed Academy picked up silver medals and Al Arabi SC took home bronze medals.
Her Excellency honored the best players of the championship, including Maryam Al Aqrabi and Maria Belin from the F45 team, Damala Baghmor and Shaghaf Amin from Waed Volleyball Academy, Khadija Tona Yaqoun from Al Arabi, Daniyal Hali from Qatar University, Malak Mohammed from the Qatar Foundation team, Nazeera Salsabela from Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Yurisha Shamodi from Lions Sri Lanka team, Nasra Al Ghazwani from the Belgravia team, Jozah Al Marri from Qatar University, and Judi Taha from Qatar SC.
The organizing committee also allocated cash prizes for the top three teams. The eventual winners received a total prize of QR35,000, with the second place claiming QR 25,000, and the third place QR 15,000 respectively.
On Saturday, December 16, the last day of the championship, Wa’ed Volleyball Academy demolished Hamad Bin Khalifa University in comfortable two sets 25-6, 25-14 in their last match.
