FIRST JOINT MEETING HELD AHEAD OF THE SEMEY-HOSTED 2022 ASIAN WOMEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP IN KAZAKHSTAN

Semey, Kazakhstan, April 23, 2022 – Members of the Control Committee and the Local Organising Committee gathered at meeting room inside the Abay Arena Cultural and Sports Complex for the joint meeting here on Friday to first check readiness ahead of the 2022 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship from April 24 to 30, 2022.

CC President and Technical Delegate Mr Yermek Syrlybayev, himself Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, chaired the first combined session, attended by AVC Secretary General and Technical Sub Committee Mr Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai from Thailand and Referee Delegate Mr Mohammad Sharmiri from Iran.

Mr Yermek welcomed all CC members and referees appointed to officiate at the one-week, Asia’s top-flight women’s club competition which serves as the qualification tournament for the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship.

Mr Kiattipong congratulated Semey and Kazakhstan on their opportunity to host this important tournament, the first AVC Championship to be held this year, citing that it will allow the participating teams’ chances to learn tactics and techniques with each other apart from supporting AVC and promoting its activities.

To make each game fair and transparent and the players to be happy with the decisions made by the referees, the organisers will use the Challenge System in this Championship, which has accomplished the goal of cleaning up calls that have the potential to influence the outcome of a match.

Six teams have already arrived in Semey, ready to test their mettle against each other to vie for top honour and the lone berth for the World Club Championship.

Altay VC, which last year handed Kazakhstan their first title ever in the Asian meet and the country’s third crown next to Rahat Almaty in 2004 and Rahat CSKA in 2007, return for title defence, while star-studded Diamond Food – Fine Chef Sport Club, defending and consecutive two-time Thailand League winners, will don the Thai colours.

Also out to prove their talents in the one-week championship are Iran’s Barij Essence, Kyrgyzstan VC, Kazakhstan’s Kuanysh VC and Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh Pedagogical Institute.

The opening ceremony is set to take place at the 5,000-seater Abay Arena Cultural and Sports Complex on Sunday ahead of the curtain-raiser between Diamond Food – Fine Chef Sport Club and Jizzakh Pedagogical Institute at 11.00am local time.

The second encounter at 14.00pm sees Altay VC take on Kuanysh VC in the all-Kazakhs affair, followed by the day’s third match between Barij Essence and Kyrgyzstan VC at 17.00pm.

The single round-robin preliminaries will be completed on April 29, with the top two teams fighting it out for the eventual title the following day. The third- and fourth-ranked sides will compete in the third-place playoff match for bronze medal.
